I need a CD-RW for a 3011 and Noritsu wants $700!!!?!!  The one I have is a Plextor PX-W5253TA/T0NK.  I've tried several different brands and models but none work.  Is there a CD-RW or DVD-RW that I can buy locally (or in the US) that is compatible?

Sounds like a load of twaddle but because on the early machines the Noritsu looks for a string in the firmware and if it is not the same as what its looking for it wont recognise the burner, unfortunately the plextor on the shelf in the store may look the same but it may not work. Its a matter of trial or error or bight the bullet

It depends on what version of software your machine is running on.
If it is pre version H00? ideally you need to upgrade the software, version K is the latest.
This is assuming you are running Noritsu software and not Kodak DLS software.

Most DVD writers seem to work except LG for some reason. (Even with a DVD writer you will only be able to burn CD's using the Noritsu software).

I've used NEC, Sony, Optiarc, Lite-On and Samsung with success.
The Plextor drives certainly used to be the best, but I'm not so sure that they are worth their premium price tag now.

Yes! "ditto" Dave S
There are many compatible multiformat DVD-CD combo drives which should work.  I once installed a Sony on G ver software (about 2006), plug 'n' play out of the box. Just lucky as that's all the closest PC store had in stock. Think it was about $69. LITEON also comes to mind as a worker, these were fitted to Noritsu for a couple of batches.

Also installed Nero onmost machimes as a matter of routine so the owners  could burn to disc in the background without too much interuption to printing.....although it was a tad slower. These days of course we're all networked and  have more than one PC to perform those multitasking functions.

Ditto Photocorp.
We never burn cd's on the Noritsu itself... Always from a networked PC.
