2901 Problems

We have a problem with our Noritsu 2901.

It crashed in the middle of a job and then refused to fully start up.

And when trying to restart looks like some software issues where maybe the windows software hasn't allowed for the Noritsu software to start

Any ideas anybody?

 

Any help would be great!

If computer still original just run recovery cd, install main software, profile data, all additional software, load backup and can work as before. All will return. Hope you have all to do that. Minilab owners should have to make backup in service mode until not too late. Also would be recommended to have hard disc image file ( made with Acronis, Norton or some other ) . Then you have not reinstall all, when system crashed. It will help to save your time - especially if computer motherboard is not original.

Thanks for that, we still have problems though. Yes the computer is still original, we have done what you have suggested above but still get a fail or error.

We have changed the hard drive as an altenative and tried to load the whole software but have encountered an issue with that too. 

 

What should we do next?

And here is some extra info from Rob who is the key guy here.

 

New 20GB HDD, formatted NTFS, installed Windows Professional 2000, then SP4, then QSS 29 software, then that machine set up installer where you choose the screen, type of machine, and flatbed scanner (forget the name.. it’ll be in that forum thread)

After choosing the screen, machine and flatbed types, the QSS program launches and it comes up with Main Controller Error. Only option there is to say Stop Alarm (alarm not actually beeping though) and then Clear Error, once they’ve been clicked it comes up with that oversized screen that shows all the devices (scanners etc) but just says initialising or something along those lines and nothing happens, the program(s) have to be force closed.

After a reboot or just opening the QSS program itself, the same error comes up and Windows initiates shut down.

You need to go into Windows device manager and click uninstall for the 2 devices marked with a yellow exclamation mark, then restart the computer, it should now find the drivers for the LVDS and ARCNET PCI cards when the computer starts up.

Thanks Dave S and Big Dave ! In the end we had to put the drivers from the old system on a CD and load them into the system.

Have done a complete re-install as per the service manual.

Has gone OK except that we are getting us errors when backing up from the floppies.

Many of the print channels seem to have copied off the floppies that did work but the machine fails to complete uniformity and says that the uniformity data isn't there.

Have set up the magazines again and tuned three lots of paper so all good so far.

We are going to clear our backlog of printing tonight and try and fix the uniformity issue tomorrow.

Any ideas there?

Clean MVLA head and try to follow these steps:


1. Initialize the MLVA data.

2. Del unf_m_nai.dat (on C:\Noritsukoki\QSS-29\Data folder)

3. Perform Inner Calibration Correction Adjustment.

4. Carry out the Load Voltage Adjustment.

5. Carry out Uniformity Pattern 2.

6. Carry out Uniformity Pattern 3.

7. Carry out Uniformity Pattern 4.

8. Del UNF_FB.dat (on C:\Noritsukoki\QSS-29\Data folder)

9. Copy the UNF01.dat file and paste it on desktop. 

10.Rename "UNF01.dat" on the desktop to "UNF_FB.dat"

11.Move the renamed "UNF_FB.dat" file to Data folder mentioned in item 8.

12.Perform the Uniformity pattern 1: 

- Choose the paper magazine. 

- Choose "Pass": to Cancel and skip the test print.

- Start the Uniformity measurement with the calibrator.

- Press "YES" key

13. Confirm the print quality.

Just in time for the "silly season" !

 

FYI, you SHOULD make a full service mode "all data" backup every month to another computer on your network !!!!!

We quit doing daily backups and just do a weekly service mode "write all data CPU->media" backup to another computer on our network, so we KNOW it is readable !  We have over 52 weeks of backups on our NAS, as well as before and after major changes to the machine (ie: I can still restore backup data from 2009 when we changed to Fuji paper from Kodak paper !)  Takes up relatively little space and gives me lots of peace of mind.

Stupid floppy disks.....

 

Also, if you insist on staying with Floppies, try to make sure (weekly or monthly) that you can still read from the floppies you are backing up to. 

We used to copy the floppies (from the 2901) to the network share all the floppies just so that 1) we knew they were still good and that 2) we had a backup.

If any had issues, we would throw away the "defective" floppy and replace with a new one, formatted on the 2901.

Haven't had a need for the backups yet, but I am confident that they are available and readable if the time comes !

Everything running smoothly but every now and again it freezes in the middle of the job. No error numbers but have to restart PC, remove paper from inside machine and start again. has done it about 6 times since yesterday.

We did think that it used to freeze because the hard disc was on the way out but this is a new one. It only used to freeze about once a month.

Thanks Dave, might get a PC guy to look at both. I know I should have upgraded the PC years ago but thought I would create more issues than I was capable of sorting out.

hi.We have a problem with our Noritsu 2901.we have blue line on print.and error in Uniformity& error in all  patterns(Uniformity Pattern 2.&Uniformity Pattern 3& Uniformity Pattern 4)how to fix it?blue lines is double on 305cm.

Clean the integrator section (bottom of filter wheel under MLVA Lamp house)
Clean the MLVA lamp house optical parts + Dichroic filters
Check the MLVA Lamp voltage is correct with a voltmeter (it should be DC 27.7±0.2 V)
Replace the MLVA Lamp with a new one

Does the calibrator move normally across the MLVA head, does it move smoothly?
Is the front sensor part of the calibrator clean?
What are the values for the internal calibrator gain adjustment?
Does it do the Load voltage adjustment normally? What values is it showing?

hi.thanks for ur-time i cleaned mlva house optical parts&dichroic filters. voltage of lamp is 28.5v and its gain values:gainB:120  gainG:8 GainR:35 Sensitivity 203 and Initial Sensitivity:105 and load voltage adjustment values:Drive voltage(after&before)HIGH(A:548 B:650----A:531 B:645)  Mid(A:540 B:642----- A:523 B:637) LOW(A:532 B:634----A:515 B:629) Biass voltage(Before/After):B 73  21    G 71  22   R 0 0

Those values look pretty normal.

Have you tried doing the uniformity pattern 2, 3 & 4 again after doing the cleaning?

Can you make a 12" (305mm) width light grey print, and scan it with a flatbed scanner at at least 300dpi so I can see what the uniformity looks like. You can use a free file sharing site like files.fm to upload the image to so you can share it here.

With a wide band like that it will most likely be an internal issue with the MLVA head itself. Unfortunately you will have to replace the MLVA head.

hi.thanks dave for reply.we have an error too. (image PCB operation error at start up machine sometimes and during printing.
