JP
We have a 2901 with a CT2 kiosk and are currently offering prints from the kiosk in 1 Hour, 4 Hours and 24 Hours. Our shop is directly next door to Boots and they have a Kodak kiosk. We are losing quite a bit of business to them because their prints are delivered 'instantly'. Has anyone come up with a solution to this problem? I'm reluctant to offer a faster service as we do some quite large print runs at times which tie up the printer, but it looks like we might have to. NeilT
You can get a dyesub printer for the CT2, so that may be an option??
JP
Yeah, I guess its either get a dye sub or offer a quicker service on the 2901 but I don't fancy either very much. i Just wondered what other labs without a dye sub printer were doing. DaveAshton
JP we offer an instant service and put a little astrix next to the word instant noting "Instant service approx 10 Minutes, wait can be longer during busy periods" We have been doing this for about 18 months now and not a single customer has questioned it. We have a Kodak G3 kiosk which has no dye sub. I begrudge sending prints to a dyesub at an increased cost to me when have a didgi lab which has cost me thousands 10feet away. Also on this, the quality is far superior through the lab and the dyesubs tend to pick up dust very easy. We also have a Boots, not next door granted but because we can provide a fairly instant services and are able to be keener on price because we are printing through the lab. We have found they don't mind poping back in 10, 15, 20mins. Not sure how feasibile this is for you as I have no knowledge on the speed of the CT2, I am presuming it is similar to our G3? :-/
JP
Thanks for that. the CT2 is fast enough and not a problem, its just if were in the middle of say 100 8x12's I would have to stop those to do the instant prints, and then restart the 100 8x12's. Do you charge much extra for the 'instant' service?
DaveAshton
If that was the case we would explain that the wait would be longer due to the fact we were busy and insert the order after the big print run. We only get big print runs like you mention a few times a week so perhaps it would be practical for you? But basically we keep it as flexible as we can. With regard to price we charge about 40% more than our standard service (Next day) I will email you our service guide on it so you can see how we present it to the customer & prices. NeilT
I am with Dave on this, in that if you can, it is faster and more cost effective to print on the mini-lab. Say a customer went into Boots with a CD with lets say 150 prints, it would take while to print on the Kiosk, but printed via the mini-lab, a lot faster. We had a 2901, and loved the machine to death, fantastic bit of kit. But, when you hit it with large digital orders, it did slow down the 2901, so a couple of months back we got rid of the 2901, and put in a 33 series, and now we are flying through the digital work, and also saveing a good sum of money on the lease of the new lab!! a win win win situ
