A and O service contract - Yes or No - Please help

Hi,

I need some help to make up my mind!

I own a Fuji DL410 Dry Minilab and my warranty has run out. A and O is contacting me regarding a service contract.

I use the printer about 200 days p/yr with average volume.  During the one year warranty period the printer had a £2000 repair done so I know the costs of repair can be high.

I need some help to decide if a gold service contract (incl labour and parts) is worth having.  The Gold contract is £2500 per year and I don't think it's great value for money.  Anybody any thoughts on this?

Thank you

Jack van Veen

Please specify what did you suffer for during this year (exactly item by item).

I.e. you  infromed us that :

>"During the one year warranty period the printer had a £2000 repair done so I know the costs of repair can be high."

So I want to know what repairs have been done till now.

Sounds like it may have had a head change!

Contracts are a bit of a gamble, If you look after the equipment well then its probably worth putting the £2500 in a high interest account and just paying for a breakdown as and when. Ive not known anyone to spend £2000 on a repair to DL410! I repair these myself and most problems tend to be dried ink around the head and capping unit as a result of a paper jam. There are other companies fuji trained on all current minilab equipment, try C&G Consultant engineers at http://www.fotoservice.co.uk

Thanks for reply guys - appreciate your opinion.

Just got some more info about the history of the machine.  A couple of weeks after instalation they replaced the cutter unit as the machine wssn't cutting properly. After about six months use they had to replace the Print Head Cleaning Unit.  I think that last repair was a £2000 - £2500 job.  These repairs have been done under warranty.  We do look after the machine and we never had any jams or clogged nozzles.  We clean the machine often and don't use it every day.

If I don't take out the contract, this is A&O's charge:

Telephone Technical Support :  £30 for 15 minutes

Remote Support :                    £50

Call Out Fee :                          £143.00

Labour :                                  £100 per hour
