c.j.shaw
Good day all, My windows 2000 and XP machines were infected by the Conficker virus recently. Even my Frontier 340 which runs 2000. This was a real wake up call as it has no shared drives and is only connected to the network to access the frontend machine. The machine would appear to freeze and render the machine unusable as the CPU hit 100%. Whilst I have been able to remove the virus from almost all the infected machines with a removal tool from ESAT and patch them, the 340 has given an extra problem in that the patch will only work on machines that have windows service pack 4 – the machine has service pack 2. As such the 340 is at risk of re-infection. My question is, should I give the 340 internet access and allow it to update windows? Many thanks, Chris
PeterD
why would you update, always use a different computer to access the internet.
Dave S
I would download the updates on another PC then burn them to CD for loading on to the machine PC. You can download Windows 2000 Service pack 4 from here: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=1001AAF1-749F-49F4-8010-297BD6CA33A0&displaylang=en Then Service pack 4 rollup 1 update: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=B54730CF-8850-4531-B52B-BF28B324C662&displaylang=en
