I get a strange low alarm-like kind of noise when i turn on one of my dks 1550 machines. I notice that during printing when the paper is cut, the noise stops and continues after a few seconds when the paper is in the exposer unit. I also notice that when i place a black plastic on the exposure platform, the noise goes louder.

Also, when i open the exposure chamber door, the noise stops.

Any solution to this or could it be a failing sensor?

It is resonant sound which is coming from the main suction fun on the exposure deck.

Try first to clean (or change) the exposure filter and also clean the small fan behind it.

It is located behind metal cover just left from the cutter units.

If that oes not help, then try to move a little bit a position off the suction fan, otherwise you have to change it.
