Dear All,

Im a new member of the forum and I would like to say hi to everyone.

Im from Cyprus and I have an old Gretag 740+ minilab that I use in my shop. Im having a bit of problems with chemichals with my machine. I dont hardly use the minilab but I print almost everyday. The problem is my chemichals are goes disfigurement very soon like 45 - 50 days.

At the moment the test paper comes out very light blue instead of white. This shows me that the chemichals are gone bad?

Does any one know the reason why? or do you have any support contact in Cyprus?

Thanks in advance

ali

Also, go to the setup and set minimum prints counter to 200 (it should be somewhere in SET Liquid menu), that feature will at each new day calculate the difference between the print count from the previous day and this set value and then it will pump the replenishment for that difference.

For example if you done 100 prints one day, the next day on power ON the machine will pump the chemistry for 100 prints automatically, but if you done 200+ then there would not be additional chemistry pumping at start ;)

This way off working I saw only on the Gretag machines, and it is much better then raising the rep rates, as they are active only if there is prints to print, but in this (Gretag) way the chemistry is pumped to satisfy this 200 print count set  ;)

But if you are turning the machine ON two time a day then leave the chemistry rate at basic

I would also recommend beside this to raise the replenishment rates values to +10% off the existing values, because sometimes this 200 prints is not sufficent and 200 is the max value which can be set :(

Dear Fellows,

Thank you very much for your time and comments.

Im using Kodak products and Im happy since then. They are all fresh and I replaced them only a few weeks ago. Any time I change the stuff I make sure all the pipes, tanks, pumps and etc are all cleaned and washed.

Unfortunately I have to leave the rep set ups on regular for the replenisher as I never know how many prints I will have during the day. Somedays over 200, some days only 50, some days 1000.

Everything is done correctly. I can see the photographs on the paper but they have sort of like a light blue layer on top. Very strange.

Any ideas?

thanks again

You were not reading carefully my post  :o

The option which I mentioned is not raising the rep rates, instead it calculate the differents between the print done the day before and the value set in that menu, and in that way it use more chemistry but at least the tanks are replanished as you were making this 200 prints per day (as a minimum)  8)

Also check the pump calibration !

Hate to be a bad messenger but if it keep happening you may have a crack on the wall between DEV and Blich/ fix chemicals, other wise you may have contamination on dev replenishment tank, dump all the chemicals out and flush the replenishment hose and refill. :) the other guess maybe low utilization  and its when your blich/fix make cake buildup. try to do the setup test once and make sure you have a good numbers on your PCS. :)

Your problem is your replenishing bleach pipe, when it drips, crystals form underneath it so your bleach is diverted into your developer tank.  Your solution is to take off the cover where your levels go in, clean the crystals of the bleach and then you need to put in new developer and your problem should be solved.  I also have a Gretag 740 and I had the same problem.  If you need any sponge rollers for your dryer, you can let me know because I have.  You can e-mail me on tbz1207@telkomsa.net.  I am in Cape Town, South Africa.

Hi Alinok,

Just new to this forum myself but I am an independent engineer who has worked on Gretags for years. Think you may find your Dev overflow is blocked and so the waste is not draining away. This allows overflow BX to contaminate your Dev, ( a regular issue with MFDs). Pour some water down the overflow and see if it drains away quickly, if not find the other end and clean out the black gunk which will be blocking it.

Cheers

Allan

Dear Sirs,

Its me again and having the same problem. I have checked everything mentioned above and Im 100% sure that theres no problem with tanks, pipes, pumps and others....

I find the problem with prepare of developer. The way I make the developer;

8,5L water + a bottle of developer = 10L of Replenisher

3,5 repl. + 3,185 water + 0,315 starter. This goes in to the tank. the rest of the replenisher goes in to the replenisher tank.

This is the formula that I have been using for years and and years

Do you have any idea of If Im doing anything wrong?

Hi

The formula seems about right,I still think your problem lies between having contamination somewhere or your rep rates are not right or could be your bleach is under active.

are the prints coming out with a cyan cast on them ,can you post a scan of one of the prints to let us all see, has the problem come back again since your last post did you put fresh chemistry in from the advice given from many people on here the last time.

Hi,

Thank you very much for your respond.

Yes Im still having the same problem. The problem was solved by itself since I posted my first message.

I have fresh developer and bleach in the tanks. I made it twice and made sure they are all right. I have checked any possible leaks or any mix from bleach to developer. Theres no problem at all. I washed every parts and pipes with clean water. It is very odd there must be something wrong.

I make fresh chemistry and start printing with no problem. After about 100 prints a cyan cast or marks appears on the paper. From the beginning you dont see anything as everything is working perfect. After 80 or 100 prints cyan marks starting appears.

I thought about the temperatures as I thought I might have over temperature problem? But still having the problem even when the temperatures are low.

I have a test scan for your viewing but I dont know how to attached with the forum. Could I have an email address so that I can email it to you?

May thanks for your help.
