R1 Scanner Noise

Recommended Posts

It's probably to do with the brass disk with the pin on it, that the neg carrier mates to when it is pushed into the scanner.

The brass disk is ridged around the outer edge. Once you have plugged your carrier in, try putting your hand behind the carrier and manually turn the ridged disk to click it into place BEFORE you load a film.

The noise you are hearing is probably the disk spinning and not mating to the carrier properly. By doing it manually before loading the film you should fix the problem.

I seem to remember there was a modification to the pin that pokes out from the brass disk. Earlier scanners had a long pin (About 1" long) and the mod pin was about half that length. I think that the mod was to fix the problem you are talking about. (Later scanners came with the mod pin already installed)

Good Luck!
