How important is having the ROMS in the 27xxscanr

How important is having the Nortisu roms in the 2701 desktop (uniformity) scanner?

Can I do without them?

oh yeah, and another question.

ON the uniformity software screen there is a value labelled quality that has two numbers , ex: 0 (34) .  What do they mean?

I'm going to answer my own question after doing some research.

The NORITSU proms are there to compensate for a problem with the scanner where the left side of the scan isn't coming out the same colour as the right side of the scan.  Noritsu proms are version 2.7 and have an '*' after the version #.

I've had my scanners rebuilt/serviced by Microtek's authorized service people in Canada and all work fine with or without the proms.

[My original problem was that the scanner couldn't find the defects in Luster paper - I put some matte in and everything was fine]
