aussiecameras Posted December 28, 2007 Report Posted December 28, 2007 I have a 2901. I am getting an 8mm wide lighter density line from my MLVA about 8.5" from one side. When I look at the emitting red dots with a mirror I can see that there are distinctly less lines of dots at the place where the problem is. I attach a quick scan of the daily set-up to show the line. Any ideas?
Retired Posted December 30, 2007 Report Posted December 30, 2007 I assume that the daily setup doesn't correct it? If so then get in service mode and run initialize uniformity. This dumps the old uniformity file and starts over. I hade some streaks like that, but mine where much narrower, and all was good after I "started over".
aussiecameras Posted December 30, 2007 Author Report Posted December 30, 2007 Thanks for your quick reply! Is there a special code to get into service mode?
aussiecameras Posted January 1, 2008 Author Report Posted January 1, 2008 Have found the info on this site. Thanks Alan and Retired!
aussiecameras Posted January 2, 2008 Author Report Posted January 2, 2008 I have spent quite a few hours this morning with a couple of local noritsu techs on this issue but we had problems with the software needed to operate the UMAX scanner needed to initialise and calibrate the uniformity. Just to expand the discussion slightly, can any of you review the image that is on my first post and tell me if there are any other directions we should go or if essentially there is an situation where the MLVA has a terminal problem. We have good technical back up in this country for Noritsu equipment and there is an expert on all things to do with the 2901! Unfortunately he is on leave at the moment! And therefore the whole single expert system has fallen down. Any help or advice from you guys is much appreciated!
aussiecameras Posted January 9, 2008 Author Report Posted January 9, 2008 The MLVA head needs to be replaced to fix the 8mm line which relates to the width of a group of elements within the MLVA. Does anybody know if the head can be repaired and if so where it would need to be sent.
NeilT Posted January 10, 2008 Report Posted January 10, 2008 The MLVA head needs to be replaced Ouch... thats going to cost :-/ Make sure you put your location, into you profile, this will help others help you
aussiecameras Posted January 11, 2008 Author Report Posted January 11, 2008 I am based in Australia so usually the part would be sourced by Kodak through Noritsu Australia through Noritsu Japan. There seems to be two options, one is a new MLVA and the other a reconditioned one. So it must be possible for Noritsu to actually repair them. It would be good to know if getting my MLVA repaired would be a viable option to buying a new or reconditioned unit.
Retired Posted January 12, 2008 Report Posted January 12, 2008 I would read this thread carefully and see how it will apply to your 2901 http://www.minilabhelp.com/forum/Blah.pl?m-1199724564/ Only then would I think about replacing the head......... It might be cheaper to buy a different machine...... Even if it was in a different country and only had the head shipped....
NeilT Posted January 12, 2008 Report Posted January 12, 2008 So it must be possible for Noritsu to actually repair them I would doubt this.. and smell some bull if your got a <repaired> one . Have a look at the link that retired has given...
Retired Posted January 13, 2008 Report Posted January 13, 2008 I would doubt this.. and smell some bull if your got a <repaired> one . Here in the US they do what are called XYZ (used) parts..... These may have been only installed by a tech... Didn't cure the problem and removed and sent back to California. They might have been used for some time???? Who knows but they do sell them. And they seem to be at maybe 75% cost of new? Since in the US we do a lot of board guessing games.... I bet most all XYZ electrical parts are from the plug and pray routine. I think they even offer a warranty of some kind on these parts too. But remember NO ONE can refurbish a head EXCEPT noritsu... Don't let some douche on ebay tell you he's got one refurbished. LOL But I know of no MLVA head that has ever gone bad?????? I have seen counters upwards of 4 million exposures and still cooking..... most other parts.... PCB this and that, filter wheels by dozen but no HEAD ever?????
ProC Posted January 13, 2008 Report Posted January 13, 2008 Agree with retired, our 2901 made approximately 7,000,000 prints and still running perfect, but on the other hand.... everything is going to breake down one day. If Noritsu would made some Unbreakable parts, they would got a Nobel prize or something. And I've had to spend way more time on repairing barely used laser mashines then 2901 which we have used for 4 years by now.
aussiecameras Posted January 13, 2008 Author Report Posted January 13, 2008 I agree that the 2901 MLVA head has an excellent reputation and it is extremely rare for them to fail. However I am pretty sure the Kodak/Noritsu tech and I have covered the issues listed on the 2711 uniformity posting. We have done a series of calibrations using a flat bed scanner and have cleaned everything in sight. The machine continues to fail uniformity with the 8mm line in the same place whatever we do.
Dave S Posted January 13, 2008 Report Posted January 13, 2008 Has your tech tried replacing the:- 1. Data output PCB (J390608-00) 2. Drive voltage PCB (J390638-00) Both boards are located in the area of the MLVA head.
aussiecameras Posted January 14, 2008 Author Report Posted January 14, 2008 We have replaced one of those boards with no change and the Kodak Noritsu machine expert here says that it can't be the other one.
Retired Posted January 14, 2008 Report Posted January 14, 2008 Are you ready to bet 30K on it? LOL Just trying to be funny..... Are you positive you have waxed the uniformity files? I had a similar issue.....
aussiecameras Posted January 14, 2008 Author Report Posted January 14, 2008 One of the reasons we didn't try the other board was that it has never been kept in stock in Australia. It would certainly make sense to get it sent over from Japan with the MLVA head and try that first! I'll run the rest of your suggestions past the tech just to make sure we have covered everything. Thanks for your help!
pqft Posted March 14, 2008 Report Posted March 14, 2008 Did you fix your MLVA I have the same problem PQFT 8) 8) 8)
aussiecameras Posted March 15, 2008 Author Report Posted March 15, 2008 In the end we had to replace the MLVA head. The 8mm low density line seems to be indicative of an internal problem that cannot be fixed on site.
aussiecameras Posted April 9, 2008 Author Report Posted April 9, 2008 PQFT How did you resolve the issue?
