noritsuvet
Hello all, We are seeing a lot more enquiries from people wanting to print from their iphones. Has anyone managed to get their kiosk software to pick up the phones using the USB cables? We have tried loading itunes on one kiosk and testing it with various staff and customers iphones to no avail
AJLA
No I can't get it to work either nor does mine work with Blackberry. It's an absolute pain as there are so many of them around.
Colopt
Last time I did a photo from an iphone, the guy had to email it to me from the phone. Other connections didn't work. Now I don't bother doing photos from phones, wasted so much time in the past trying to get bluetooth connections working all for one or two 6x4's. Far more trouble than it's worth. Big Dave
We have had some success connecting with their USB cable to a PC and copying files from it to a CF chip for use on the Kiosk. A real PITA, and usually for only a very few prints. Doesn't always work either. Agree with Colopt... far more trouble than it's worth. Same thing with microSD enabled cell phones. Customers try to blame YOU for a crappy photo when they choose to print the 9kb thumbnail instead of the 200kb "photo".
noritsuvet
We are now getting people to email them and it works fine. Plenty of 'enthusiasts' using the new Histamatic app which has really boosted numbers. This is only going to get bigger so us minilabs are going to have to stop complaining and look for some solutions. Drylab prints won't need the same resolution, so we don't want them all to resort to Tesco or Asda :-/
nash
the thing is we do`nt know where an image from a phone is going to lead too. i lost a job yesterday as when i advised a customer to buy a micro chip then i can print her images far easily than trying to bluetooth the files. She then said i`ll come back on Saturday and buy a micro chip and then she`ll order some photo mugs, coasters and a mouse mat for her husband. I think she`ll pop into another lab who will make an effort to download via bluethooth and do the photo gifts she wants. I think i`ve lost this cutomer for good. Who knows she could have been BIG Spender
philspectrum
While I agree that new technologies can seem a PITA, I have always tried to find solutions, for myself if not my customers...... We have every card adaptor, have experimened with Bluetooth and can always make it work (except some old samsung phones) the shop has a Sony erikson as a Bluetooth backup with removable media, and we have iTunes installed on a Pc so customers can download their iPics. Customers can also email or picture message to the shop too. In recent experience, there has been a lowering of quality expectation, and while we may think 72dpi is poor, is is increasingly thought of as acceptable. Sure some sales are small, but some are not. Don't give in, get creative! P
Colopt
Who knows she could have been BIG Spender No point worrying about what could have been. Often customers that say "I'm going to order heaps of this or that" never actually do. I would have no problem with stuffing around with bluetooth connections ect. if I actually made anything out of it but I never did, which is why I stopped doing it. aussiecameras
Current Kodak software on a G4 kiosk works well, you just have to buy a supply of iphone connection cables as the customers nick them! We do heaps of photos of iphones and other phones each week. We also have a Mac set up with itunes to download them that way if needed. Its not a market you can ignore, its a huge growth area. Trevor brown
We are on version 4.1.2 on the G4's they work with the iphone when a cable used but do not pick up all the images. We have them send the missing ones to Facebook then pick them up.
nash
Boy it`s been hard work today, plenty of people coming in with phones with over 700 images on their phones, been an NIGHTMARE trying to find the one image they want as a photo gift or even just a couple of prints. Just too much time consuming when you`re busy
Chopper
G4 Kodak kiosks will print from I phone when on version 4 software, the only limitation is the whole data size, ie if you have lots of images say 400 the kiosk will only see the 1st 250 so you need to print or save then and then print the rest. Just buy a spare cable and off you go.
mpphotos
The latest version of the Lucidiom software works a treat for both blackberry and iphone,
