Mark Amies
As we approach that time of year, I wondered what Christmas promotions or Christmas photo gift ideas you had?
fujilab
We are focusing on promoting canvas prints this year and have also stocked up on instant photo gifts as these were a big success for us last Christmas. As for promotions, we use a ready made campaign programme which lets us generate our our posters and content. No special deals - just letting everyone know what we can do - and how quick we can do it
noritsuvet
Agree, we don't need to be doing deals at this time of the year. Just making money. Are those the Adventa gifts from Swains? They have been good for us too and we're about to order more for this Christmas. How are people doing with their Christmas Cards? They look good but I don't want to end with any after the 25th
Tony.T
Got left with loads of the Xmas cards and 'rubbery' frames from last year. Not going to order any more, just use last years stock. The Adventa items are good though, steady sellers all year. Canvas wraps hopefully will be good, but I have a feeling that cheaper photo gifts will be better for us this year. I am thinking of getting those Jute bags from Swains- any opinions anyone? Mugs and suchlike I think will be huge this year, in fact any fun, personalised, but cheap items will move I reckon. What do you all think? Oh, and anyone who advocates Digital photo frames can go to the naughty step for an unspecified period. Those were so 2 years ago and suppliers can't sell them to us for as little as Tesco sell them at retail , unless you know different in which case share with us! Anyhow, we approach the Christmas season and I wish you all the best for sales- make it a memorable event
fujilab
Tony is right. The Adventa gifts have beens steady sellers throughout the year. Has anyone ordered any of their new lines like the bags and calendars? I have just seen them on Swains website. Just wondering whether to add those to our range too. cecilh
Tony has not done his homework on digital frames. Don't think everyone wants to buy a frame @ £29.99. Tesco sells 7" from £29.99 to £69.99 and our best selling 7" is the Kodak which Tesco sell at £49.99 ie the same as us. People want a range of sizes and prices up to £199.99 for the 15" models. Last Christmas, and through the year, we have kept all prices and there is always £16 ones being sold by various suppliers to do at £29.99. Other than Stevie Wonder, customers can see the advantage of buying more expensive models as soon as they are switched on!
AJLA
Disappointed with the adventa fridge magnets, very cheap looking and I have seen far better beig retailed for much less. The quality of the calendars are good but I think the area where the photo is to be placed needs some design rethink as this lets it down a little. Suggested retail is quite high too as compared to other things out there. So I won't me making a decent profit margin on either of the products. Bags not tried . .would very much like to hear some feedback from someone who has seen them. Other Adventa products... great! Good quality, well presented and can be retailed with a good profit margin. did very well with them last year and hope this year will be as good. kioskguy
We didn't like the magnets either but all the other Adventa products look good. We have ordered the desk calendars (not the hanging type) and bags which should be in this coming week hopefully. All our staff liked the idea of these. Will let you know the customers reaction once they have been on display a while. Adventa has been a really good range for us too. We have sold lots of the cards and keyfobs. Interesting to see their packaging evolving. Nice to see a supplier that seems to understand our market.
Denis
I'm looking at introducing a cheaper canvas size to our range. I will be offering a canvas for as little as £20, this will be a 10"x8" and a 12"x10" at £25. Canvases sell well at christmas, so I intend to sell volume. I am having a 2400mmx1200mm mdf board cut down to these sizes (1 board wiil give me at least 45 10"x8" blocks or 28 12"x10") if my calculation is right! Say I pay £50 for B&Q or Homebase to cut it for me, I will take (Assuming I sell them all) £900 for the 10"x8"s and £560 12"x10" ones. I can even do a 3 for 2 offer. I just need to decide how they will be hung! (As flat as possible) with little time and money spent. My stretched canvas start at £50 12"x16" up to 20"x30" at £90. kerching...... Tony.T
Good thread guys ! Cecil, I hear where you are coming from, but in my location I stand by what I say ref digital photo frames. No- one, and I mean no-one will spend more than £30 on these now, after all they've all got I-phones, I-pods, I-pads etc so what's the point of a digital photo frame ?? ;D, digi photo frames are so last year darling ;D Canvases may well be ok this year as they have been in the past, Adventa stuff is ok, regular seller. I bought in a load of 6x4 adventa fridge magnets. 15 mins after I put them on the shelf a customer came in and bought all my stock !!!!!!! So now I need to order more- a pointer perhaps ?? I believe the way to success this Christmas is to forget the gimmicks, but stick to well proven, classy family favourites such as canvases, nicely framed prints, lasting gifts such as coasters, mugs etc. Keep it simple, classy and good value. But I may be wrong of course, so, more input is needed please. And again, many thanks to all who post on this thread
Mark Amies
Yes, thanks for the responses. I had rather thought that a key area would be with photo gifts. There is plenty of things out there, clocks, mugs, t-shirts, coasters, etc. It is just a question of how well you execute them, and how you market and display them - a nice window display works wonders. Nick
The easiest way to hang board on the wall is with two D-Rings, and a piece of string. We do something similar with Conti Board, I buy in the 9" wide board and then just trim it to the length required, usually 9"*13". Once the canvas is wrapped around I just tape the back and screw the D-rings in place and string between them. Works well for the cheaper option. cecilh
Tony, you must live in a strange area if people only buy the smallest, cheapest model ! Does that mean everyone are driving a second hand Lada car? Of course if that's the only digital frame anyone in your area sells you will be right ! I suppose everyone is walking around your area with a £30 mobile phone. Just think about it, I would be surprised if you are correct. Have a good Christmas, Cecil
cecilh
Canvas prints, mobile phones, Kodak printers, Kodak cameras and yes Tony expensive digital photo frames have been our thing this year. We sold a couple of 15" @ £200 and we got a few 10" frames to sell @ £119.99 The Kodak £50 ones went straight out the door. Only 4 days to go and noone have any stocks now.
