Harry Crank
This is BIG news, I think. Flickr users in the UK (and the rest of the world) will soon be able to order prints from the site via Snapfish (which is owned by HP). This service was previously only available in the US, and didn't use Snapfish. Pick-up-in-store from HP Photo Centres will not be offered outside the US initially, it appears. PRESS RELEASE Flickr from Yahoo! Selects Snapfish by HP as Its Preferred Global Photo Printing and Gift Fulfillment Partner Sunnyvale, Calif. – Nov. 12, 2009 – As part of its ongoing commitment to be the center of people’s online lives, Flickr, a division of Yahoo! Inc. (Nasdaq: YHOO) and one of the world's largest photo sharing communities, today announced a partnership with Snapfish by HP to provide Flickr members worldwide with a wider range of photo print and gift creation options. As Flickr’s preferred printing partner, Snapfish will enable the Flickr community to quickly transfer, organize and print photos, as well as create unique photo gifts using their existing Flickr photostream. This is the first time that most of Flickr’s international members will have an option to print photos directly from their photostream - taking advantage of Snapfish’s international presence in 22 countries worldwide. With this partnership, Flickr has made ease-of-use printing a priority for its 40+ million worldwide members. Flickr and Snapfish have worked closely to develop a fully integrated and intuitive experience, combining Snapfish’s printing capabilities with Flickr’s online photo organization features, such as Organizr, Sets and Photo Page. From the Flickr Organizr, members can easily select individual or batch photos for editing or printing through Snapfish where they can produce a variety of photo products using their own personally authentic Flickr images. “At Flickr, it’s important that all our members across the globe have the ability to bring their images to life through printing and sharing,” said Douglas Alexander, General Manager, Flickr. “We’re excited to partner with Snapfish in this effort, as we feel the company represents the value and choice we know our members expect when it comes to their photos.” In addition to enhanced printing capabilities, Flickr’s partnership with Snapfish will allow members more flexibility in shipping photos – not only can members print photos from anywhere in the world, they can also ship photos to anywhere in the world. Additionally, members in the U.S. can opt for local pick-up of their prints in-store at any of Snapfish’s retail partners, including Walmart, Walgreens, Staples, Duane Reade, and others. “We are thrilled to bring the Snapfish service to Flickr’s member community and align with a leading online photo and video sharing partner in the industry,” said Ben Nelson, general manager, Snapfish by HP. “Flickr is an ideal partner for us in our goal to reach consumers and digital photography enthusiasts where they interact and share their digital memories online.” About HP HP, the world’s largest technology company, simplifies the technology experience for consumers and businesses with a portfolio that spans printing, personal computing, software, services and IT infrastructure.
