askey
We use barclaycard for our card payment services, allthough their charges seem pretty fair I notice we are now being charged a non compliance fee off 1.56 per month and a minimum charge of £20.Also the terminal we use is not the fastest. Can anyone in the UK suggest an alternative provider

philspectrum
If you are in the UK, the PMA deal with barclays merchant services is virtually unbeatable. Terminal rental from £12 and best fees you can get. I recover my annual fees many times over just with card fee savings. Every time I shop around I never find better. I do hear that British Retail Consortium members get even better deals, but membership fee is huge. Join PMA. Sorted ! Phil
cecilh
Federation of small business (FSB) also offer their members a good deal through Streamline (RBS).
philspectrum
I also am being fined for non-compliance - but only 0.0098% I have tried to complete the form and submit 3 times but always fail ..... At a recent PMA UK council meeting I mentioned this, - and most all others there had never heard of PCI DSS - 'Paymant card Indsutry Secirity Standard' compliance. They joked that I was being scammed, - but since it appears on my barclays merchant services statement ....... I spoke to Nigel Mcnaught of PMA Uk who was unnawaire of PCI but is looking into it. He got the idea that it is only for very big traders, - or those who collect card data online which could be attacked by hackers/viruses or ??? Am finding it very frustrating, - and the website is written in bad USA english, - that is not plain, - and dispite being about somthing very simple, - makes it very complicated, - mostly because they want to charge you to become compliant ! Any more PCI DSS - 'Paymant card Indsutry Secirity Standard' compliance. stories ? Phil

philspectrum
QUOTE "As a member of the BSSA through the HSBC they offer the following rates 1.530% with solo at 0.1450 per transaction and Visa debit/ Electron at 0.1550 BSSA monthly terminal fee is £10.00" Barclays Merchant Services deal from PMA rates (UK) Consumer credit 1.45% Commercial credit 1.775% Solo/Electron/Debt 18p Terminal fee £13 PMA membership is about £60 ? BSSA about £166 Based on my last months fees I would have saved £8.76 giving annual savings of £105 plus vat SO If you left PMA - which does serve the photo industry, and joined BSSA you would be about level pegging - based on my card processing of about £100,000 per year. Me ? - I'm staying with PMA, - but will ask Nigel to see if he can negotiate better rates ! Phil
philspectrum
It is worth mentioning that PMA also offer free legal advice. Plus support with all legal and technical aspects of running a photo bussiness. Just checked my membership, only £55 per year! The conferences and workshops are fantastic value, and I always come back from the educational talks full of new ideas ready to use. Pma is a no-brainer for me Phil no-brain ! NeilT
I will also support what Phil says. The PMA is your trade association, you get your discounts, on service such as Merchant. But also a whole lot more. Do look out for details about the next PMA <Do> in September. You can even meet Nigel, and put your questions to him..
