Vinyl sign Making etc

Recommended Posts

Following a very interesting meeting with two of our members recently I seem to have got myself fired up to get into Vinyl cutting for T-shirts and general signs for shop fronts, vehicles etc etc.

Does anyone else do this and how do you find the market? Is it worth doing? Any recommendations for equipment (budget of £500 max, secondhand ok) Suppliers of consumables, T- shirts etc?

If you have been doing this for some time what pitfalls can I expect?

Most importantly- Is anyone prepared to do a tutorial for us?

Thanks in anticipation!

Tony

I will register my interest in this subject as well, any advice on plotter/cutters would be good, as well as vinyl supplies and application. I have discovered that our largest local motor factors not only do vinyl but have got all the equipment to do gifting etc. so my reticence at entering the vinyl signage market has evaporated.

Shame we are so far away Tony as i'd be more than happy to have you muck in in the sweat shop for the day, particulary at this time of year!!

A bit of a demo afternoon is something I would have loved prior to getting into it.

With your knowledge i'm sure you would find it very easy to pick up.  There really isn't a lot to learn re the t shirts.

More than happy to be on the end of the phone if I could be of help although I am only familiar with my little workhorse machine!

Your local motor factors are doing what ?!

It's difficult to comment on something when you're not familiar with those particular items, how about popping the same post on the forum we discussed the other day, they are incredibly helpful and there may be someone with knowledge or experience of these cutters.

By the way have you seen any tyre fitting machines on ebay?  Could be intersting for me...

Ha- Ha, as it happens I used to be in the tyre trade many years ago! I could certainly train you in tyre fitting  ;)

Can you do me a favour, I can't seem to find that forum we spoke about, can you send me a link please?

I've taken another look at the link you sent me ref your vinyl cutter, I'm starting to come round to this unit, but my only misgiving is would it be too small?

Right- Done it  ;D ;D 8) ;):)

Ordered a Graphtec craft robo. Every forum including this one where I posted the same questions overwhelmingly endorsed this unit as the best start up machine. Aso it's very reasonably priced with big machine features.

Many thanks to AJLA on here who has been exceptionnally helpful. That makes the score one all now  ;)

That's the boyo to go for then!

It's a funny 'ol thing with Mill Auto, they started doing car graphics and signage 3/4 years ago, but I was unaware that they had diversified into gifts untill one of the 'how much' brigade informed me that  their t's were cheaper than mine, and they could do a wide range of materials and colours. Strangely they are also doing business cards and stationary, have their own slitter and all. Obviously taking a leaf out of Tesco's book.
