Volume Orders - Any Secrets?

From talking to ther lab owners I've found that some are achieving some very large orders - say upwards of 500 prints, while others never manage to get their customers printing more that 50. Sometimes it's down to competition (or lack of!), others it's to do with staff training and some have pricing scales that make volumes more attractive. From the successful ones nothing really stands out as the reason punters choose their store over printing through Tesco or online.

Over the Bank Holiday Weekend we've been having a brain-storming session to get the stor busier this summer with a particular emphasis on raising our print counts. Now we're getting better paper prices we can get more profit out of more prints.

I'm interested to hear anyone else's strategies that have worked (including the ones that don't)

Lots of kiosks, stepped prices for volume, print comparisons with our competition and good service have worked for us. We regularly get the bigger orders probably because we have been around for a while and customers have always considered us the imaging specialists in our area.  8)

I would also say it does help if you have been doing *digital* for a while, if it is something that you have just got into, he says meaning in the last couple of years, then it will take time, when I had a lab, and went digital a few years back, it took time for customers to know how we worked and what it was all about, print orders of 300+ prints were common.....

Show scale pricing on your pricelist, by showing high quantity breaks in your advertising you are showing the customer that you take large orders seriously and that you give volume discount.

Suggestion

Create a poster showing several different size piles of prints and lable each with a quanitity and price per print.

How many kiosks do you have? The more you have the more digital prints you get, it is a fact. We introduced a prepaid card in 500 and 1000 this works for those big orders when we need to come down in price. Our 500 price is the same as a big box store nearby charges for 1 print but still we sell a lot of 500's. They need to use them in lots of 25, the redemption rate is around 90% so we get an extra 10% on our price  :)

We have nine kiosks now and have been offered a good deal by Fuji on another ten which would take us to 19. I am just looking at some shop layouts to see how best we can fit them in along with a planned kids area as we have lots of Mums use our store.  Apparently Fuji are soon to install up to 25 kiosks in one store in the North of England. Not sure which but very intrigued to see how it goes.
