Problem With E-Station

My old e-station is having a sulk!

We can load up images from whatever media we have to hand. From there we can select what we want to print as normal.

Everything seems fine until we try to send it to our DKS 1550 via the network, then 2 faults occur-

1) the label printer does not print the 'ticket'

2) the e-station does not actually send anything to the 1550, although it finishes the order in the normal way- and does the thank you screen.

I've done a disc check and a defrag but no joy. The network is fine but it just does not work!

Perhaps the software needs reloading- I have the discs but don't know the password I'm sure I'll be asked for!

It's about 8 years old and is XP based.

Any ideas anyone?

First of all, are you well connected to the network?  workgroup IMPAG, etc.

Can you access to DKS folders through estation?

 

On eStation :

 

is the path right ? \\dks\rep_dks\entree_archive

 

About the label printer. In printers is installed? Is the default printer?

Sorry it's taken me some time to get back to you, but we had a death in the family so sorting that out was a priority.

 

The network path is correct and I can access the e-station from another pc on the network. The printer is installed, but I noticed that 2 were installed, so I uninstalled one and now the printer works- but it still does not send any work through to the DKS.

 

when finished, the screen tells me the order number and in red letters- 'warning- machine busy'

 

There is plenty of free space on all the drives.

 

Any ideas or is it bin it and replace it for a standalone instant print unit?

The number activation hasn't been accidently switched on has it?

i.e. waiting for the number pad to be attached and release number entered.

Never worked with eStation but I would say .... 

network settings could be faulty ...somehow. possible that virtual printer unit you have uninstalled had proper network address (IP)  

the second one was not properly set... 

BTW  ... how did this old crusader said from Indiana JOnes 3 ? "You have chosen wrong..." 

better is the worst enemy of good - if it was is working smoothly you shouldn't try to improve this . 

check IP settings. 

can someone make for Tony some screens of printer settings on E-station ?

"11.3.25 DKS Network Configuration
The following procedure allows you to connect the station to the machines network:
Check that the station and DKS are in operation
Connect the Ethernet RJ45 link cable between the station and the DKS
Switch off, then switch back on the station then the DKS
From the DKS, switch to "Administration" mode application
Using the installation start-up floppy disk, launch application: "A:\DKSNETCFG.EXE"
Wait for the loading to finish
From the DKS, go back to "Utilisation" mode application"

Damm... where will you find this floppy

The real question here is, can you access the rep_dks folder on DKS from E-Station or from another PC on the network ?

 

Maybe somehow on DKS sharing is missing on the rep_dks folder which is on D drive and should have sharing icon (hand) on that folder or there is a problem with read/write policies on that folder ?

 

I translated the GUI on our office DKS in Croatian language and because off that it is looking a little bit different then default

Ok Perica- I'll take a look at that when I'm back in the lab tomorrow.

If that doesn't work can I connect a Thermal dye-sub printer directly to the e-station and use that instead? That wouldgive me an instant print option which I would prefer.

I do not know, I worked very little with older E-Stations, new one (with the dongle) can be configured to print also from some dye-sub printers, but only one bought from KIS like some Mitsubishi or Shinko models

Off course it is possible to update the E-station software to new one which can also print from iPhone (using optional WiFi receiver), from Facebook, Twitter ...

I do not know the price, but if I remember Creative Print was a little bit cheaper then Creative Suite which have Photobook option as addition

Which dye-sub printer do you have ?

I have yet to buy a dye-sub printer, I'm waiting to see if I can revive the e-station. Any recommendations?

Shinko S2145 is good dye-sub printer and I think it can be connected to newer E-station software (Creative Print or Creative Suite) even if it is not coming dirrectly from KIS, but you have to check that with KIS

Actually E-station can be configured that it can send images to print on DKS or on compatibile dye-sub priter and the pricing can be set differently depending off the choise off the order done (1 hour print is going to DKS, and instant print is going to dye-sub, or something like that, I do not remember exact names off that option chosen by customer).

Kodak 7000 series dye-sub printer have great output, but they are expensive

It's gone to kiosk heaven!

I've replaced it with a Kodak GS compact instant print kiosk. To be honest that is what my customers want- the e-station was just not being used.

That's 2 e-stations I've taken out of use. Anyone want any spares?
