1) does it have sharpening software included? I have had a customer complaining that scans to disc I did for him from120 slide film was oversharpened, not aware I had used any sharpening.

 

2) the connector block where the lamp cable connects has 4 connectors, which are the correct ones to use? Mine uses the connector at each end so 0xx0 if you see what I mean. I seem to be getting through a lot of bulbs, which are fine to use in the printer afterwards, but won't work in the scanner.

I use osram 'smooth reflector' bulbs. I've just ordered a new socket and leads in case my original is at fault.

1) Sharpening on IM1500 scanner is off course set to some value and it can be modified if necessary C:\DKS\Constantes\ScannerImagus.cst

 

[sOURCE1_1] (this means 120 carrier and slide film to be scanned)

COEFG=1.02 (magnification ratio, you can modified this also if there is too much cropping during the scanning)

RED=0

GREEN=0

BLUE=0

CONTRAST=0

DENSITY=0

FLASH=0

SATURATION=2

SHARPNESS=28 (this is sharpness parameter)

SHARPNESS_HIGHRES=28 (modified this also just in case)

2) You have to use one on each end and this was modified in the past to lower the heating on this connector, changing the socket would help with lamp burning too soon

do you recommend I alter the sharpness settings to reduce the effect- or even turn it off altogether? My settings are the same as yours above.

Try to lower sharpness value to 20 and scan again and compare, or let your customer to compare, also you can try to save it to CD as tiff file

I'll give that a try- I was saving the files to disc as tiff files anyway. Will lowering it to 20 be enough?
