Hey there,

I"ve got a Noritsu 3300 + S3 Scanner and I've been getting these image artifacts when viewed at 100%.
See example images.

Is there some software issue I'm dealing with or is it just how these scanners produce?

Thanks

Try changing the following DSA settings:-

sharpness setting to -3/ -4

overall contrast setting to -2

Graininess setting to 0

Hi Dave,

Thanks for your suggestion, but it didn't seem to change the issue I'm having.

Does it do the light source normally without any errors?

What is the pixel dimension you are scanning at?
What are the JPEG compression settings set to?

Are the films developed properly, bad BL or FIX will cause scanning issues.

How do the actual prints from negative look like?

Our film is perfect. We are doing control strips daily.

We are scanning to TIFF

Quality 3 - BASE16

LARGE size.

A couple of questions you didn't answer.

Does it do the scanner light source update normally without any error messages?

Do the prints from negative look like your sample image?  Or is it only the saved scanned image that looks like this?

It updates normally without errors.

The prints look fine from the negative. It's only for the saved scanned images.

I appreciate your help on this one.

This is a common issue, the prints look fine but the scanned images look grainy.

The only solution is to set up a different print channel for scanning. The problem is the machine adds too much sharpening to the scanned images.

As a starting point. Graininess suppression should be 0, Chroma no higher than 100, Overall contrast -2, Sharpness -4

Each machine is different, so you will need to experiment with different sharpness and contrast settings in DSA until you are happy with the results.
