6901-0001 error for Lps24 pro

I have an error during initialization of my Lps24 pro 6901-0001. I had cut the tip of FO cables and cleaned the emitters and receivers but still error is the same. I performed arcnet test but the signal of printer control board doesn't come OK. Please help. All are welcome for suggestions. Thank you.

You have not other errors, so at least ARCNET hub on printer control pcb should be working. Go into software version check menu. There should be communication with printer control pcb and laser control pcb. Then on printer control pcb temporary disconnect ARCNET cables, coming from laser control pcb. If after that communication with laser control disappear, but communication with printer control pcb will be restored you can know, that it is some noise from there.

To disconnect ARCNET cable need on sensor press and hold white or black ring and pull out cable gently. Read on any Noritsu service manual how to handle ARCNET cables.

If communication between PCI-LVDS/ARCNET PCB ( board inside computer ) and printer control pcb is missing can check voltages on printer control pcb ( 5V on TP1 and 3.3V on TP7 ) . Can try to clean ARCNET connectors ( on printer control pcb and PCI-LVDS/ARCNET PCB ) . Can trim ARCNET cable ends ( should be 90 degrees angle ) . On printer control pcb can try connect to other ports ( 3 inputs and 3 outputs there and they are the same ) .

Do not remember LPS-24PRO has ARCNET selfcheck, or not. Look do you have "selfcheck" folder on C:\Noritsukoki\QSS-32_33 . If have - disable QSS autostart ( remove QSS from Startup folder ) and run ARCNET test software ( C:\Noritsukoki\QSS-32_33\selfcheck\SelfCheck.exe ) .

If selfcheck software missing I think could be used standard selfcheck software, which is for other minilabs. The same PCI-LVDS/ARCNET PCB ( J390865 or J391307 ) and the same printer control pcb ( J390947 or J391254 ) used on QSS32, QSS34 and LPS-24PRO . So if to select some QSS32 ( not SD ) you can test connection between PCI-LVDS/ARCNET PCB and printer control pcb. Errors with all other boards need to ignore ( because they are not on LPS-24PRO ) .

J391254-00 was not used on QSS37. This printer control pcb used on QSS2, QSS34 and LPS-24PRO .  Older part number - J390947-00 ( not complying with the RoHS directive ) . J391254-00 is board new model.

Thanks again for your advice. I have performed selfcheck and this is the results:

pci- arcnet signal is OK

printer control board is -

laser control board is OK

I’v Been checked and trimmed FO cables and spray duster at emitters and receivers on all boards. Error still coming. 5v test points also good but have a little doubt at 3.3v which I measured 3.27v

3.27 V instead 3.3 is good. Can be even bigger difference.

Laser pcb is connected through printer control pcb, so really PCI-LVDS/ARCNET PCB has connection with ARCNET hub on printer control pcb. Just do not see printer  board itself. 

Try from printer control pcb disconnect ARCNET cables, which goes to laser control pcb. Then run self check and see results. Laser pcb will be - ( because disconnected ) . For you most important is connection status with printer control pcb.

If even then printer control pcb is "- "then try connect ARCNET cables to other pair on printer control pcb. Then repeat self test again. Do the same, when connected to third pair. ARCNET cables can connect, or disconnect when minilab is powered. If no connection then probably printer pcb is really faulty. To be 100% sure can try test your board on some QSS32, or QSS34 series minilab ( can connect and run self test there ) . 

On LPS-24PRO can be used J390947 or J391254 removed from disassembled QSS32, or QSS34. Just need to make software upgrade from HD ( only for printer control pcb ) and from backup load printer data.

Then on printer control pcb works only ARCNET hub ( because you saw laser control pcb through it ) , but other printer control pcb part doesn't work ( ARCNET hub works, computer see it, but no response from board ) .  It is normally that you see 6901-201, when laser pcb disconnected. 6901-200 means no communication with laser control pcb, 6901-001 means no communication with printer control pcb, so 6901-201 means no communication with both of them ( 200 + 001 = 201 ) .

You need other printer control pcb. Can use newer model ( J391254 ) . Only this model was used on LPS-24PRO ( because printer was made latter ) . On QSS32 and QSS34 used J391254 also, but on older minilabs used J390947. These boards on QSS32/QSS34 are full exchangeable. Older board model ( J390947 ) not complying with the RoHS directive ( solder has lead ) . Really it is better for board. Lead based solder is more plastic, so very rare have dry joints there. It is the biggest problem for lead free solder. 

 J390947 was not used on LPS-24PRO. When this printer was made Noritsu already had J391254, so used it. Anyway, if J390947 works on other printers it should work on LPS-24PRO also.

J391254 is quite expensive. Price - 1300 - 4000 USD ( depends where to buy and new, or used ) . J390947 price is 1300 - 2600 USD.  Try to find board from disassembled QSS32, or QSS34.

I think price is lower, because seller was sure, that board is for QSS33, when really it is for QSS32/QSS34. QSS33 are small minilabs, so parts have lower prices. On QSS33 used J390944 ( not J390947 ) , Here they sell J390947-02 ( can see label in the middle of the board ) , so this board is for QSS32/QSS34.

After board replacement need go into service mode. Then need to make software upgrade from HD ( only for printer control pcb ) and from minilab backup load printer data.

Hello Maxi, Is there any Possibilities that error 6901-0001 can caused by PCI - LVDS Arcnet Board?

No, because the same board has communication with laser control pcb.   PCI-LVDS/ARCNET PCB has connection with ARCNET hub, which is on not working printer control pcb. No response only from printer control pcb circuit. It is not connected  to ARCNET hub, which is on the same board.

On LPS-24PRO. ARCNET is PCI-LVDS/ARCNET PCB → ARCNET hub port on printer control pcb → other ARCNET hub port on printer control pcb → laser control pcb . In all this circuit ARCNET data are transferred. Missing only communication between ARCNET hub ( on printer control pcb ) and printer control pcb itself .

If voltages are correct and laser pcb disconnecting didn't help - then printer control pcb really doesn't work. You can try turn off minilab and discharge board backup capacity. It is to store data ( not for software ) , but you can try to do it. Probably will not help, but nothing to loose.

You need J391254 , or J390947 from disassembled QSS32, QSS34, or LPS-24PRO.

Tomas in his PM told error(s) are intermittent ... it can show up machine can't be used  [ or ]   machine can be functional for another whole day without errors. that leads me to think about Tomas may be having a bad power supply board  or bad connection somewhere ? ? ?

I had been trying to figure out everything from power supply voltage measurement to cleaning all the connector contact but still there are days that works smoothly without errors and there are days that it has error but restarting the printer so many times it works again

Yes perhaps you are right but is there any chance to increase the intensity of emitter output? Because the new laser control board which I tried to install, the emitter light output is brighter than coming from printer control and pci arcnet boards.

Can you please tell me how to discharge the board backup capacity?

Do not need to discharge. I thought, that board doesn't work at all. If board works and fault is intermittent it can't to help.

All what you can do then try to clean ARCNET sensors ( on PCI-LVDS/ARCNET PCB and on printer control pcb ) . Also can trim ARCNET cable ends ( 90 degrees ) . The best to use special cutters ( for example Omron  E39-F4 ) .

It is strange, that have communication error with printer control pcb, but no errors with laser control pcb. Laser control pcb is connected through ARCNET hub, which is on printer control pcb. That means you have ARCNET connection with hub on printer control pcb, laser control pcb, but do not see board, where is hub.

Sometimes this problem can cause ARCNET noise coming from other board, but when you disconnected laser control pcb communication with printer control pcb was not restored. So no communication between PCI-LVDS/ARCNET PCB and on printer control pcb, but have communication between PCI-LVDS/ARCNET PCB and on laser control pcb ( through ARCNET hub, which is on printer control pcb ) .
