Jose Dib Posted December 28, 2025 Report Posted December 28, 2025 Hi everyone! This is my first post here! And k am new owner of a Frontier SP-500. I picked it up just a couple of days ago and everything was running perfectly. However, today, right in the middle of a scanning job, it suddenly stopped working and wouldn't recognize the film anymore. I tried restarting the system, but when running the Pre-operational Check (calibration), I am now getting the error code: W-SP-4425. I clean the mask, the pins and all the equipment, but the error stay there I would really appreciate any guidance or help you could offer. I knew that buying a old machine meant facing maintenance issues eventually, but I really didn't expect to run into this just a few days after buying it :(
Minilab service Posted December 28, 2025 Report Posted December 28, 2025 W-SP4425 means detecting of the mask failed. Can be that required 135 upper and lower mask not installed, diffusion plate of 135 lower mask removed, foreign matter in scanner opening, or scanner optical axis misalignment. If you have manual carrier ( MFC10AR ) try insert it. Try to make calibration and scan. With standard film carrier ( NC100AR ) open maintenance menu. Go to film carrier input check menu ( 0421 ) , mask registration ( 0420 ) and CCD Data Display (0343) . Look what you see there.
Jose Dib Posted December 29, 2025 Author Report Posted December 29, 2025 Thank you so much for your reply! I have accessed the maintenance options you mentioned, but unfortunately, the error persists. Here is what I have tried so far: 1. Mask Position: I attempted to recalibrate the mask position, but the automatic mode was not allowed/enabled, and the error appeared again. 2. Maintenance Menus: I checked the other menus you listed (0421, 0420, 0343), but I honestly don't know how to interpret the specific values displayed. I am attaching photos of these screens so you can see the parameters. 3. Light Source: I initially thought the LED light source might have failed or that there was an issue with the diffuser, but visually everything seems fine. 4. Light/Dark Calibration: I attempted to run the calibration. The "Dark" calibration completed without issues, but when attempting the "Light" calibration, the machine threw the error again. 5. I made a sensor test, but everything it’s ok I am really unsure what the specific issue is, especially since the unit was working perfectly just a few days ago when I acquired it. I’m attaching photos of everything I checked. I really appreciate you taking the time to support me with this! I’m really worried about this
Minilab service Posted December 31, 2025 Report Posted December 31, 2025 Might be CCD, or mask have incorrect positions. On 0420 press Image Display. Then press Auto Correct. Look if you see light and have no errors. If you have 135H mask try insert it and do the same. On software need select it. Do you have manual film carrier ( MFC10AR ) If have then check mask position there. Open 0345 . Look if you see CCD curve there.
