Hello !

Yesterday I have became owner of R2 Super scanner station (DP2000e) and as the previous owner only knew few thing he used to do with the machine, i came here for more info.

1. I would like to use the machine i basically two modes - max res/quality JPG and TIFF. But Im stuck with only 72 dpi, any idea how to change to higher dpi, if even possible ?

2. Scans I was able to make so far are good, but after zooming on them, they have like patches of weird pixels, see photo. Is this something to do with grainness/sharpness setting in menu ? two choices - standard or for retouching , again which one of them is better ? Can this cause the weird patches ? compression during saving is lowest on JPG and turn off on TIFF completely. Image on left is camera scan with no problem, on the right is from Konica with patches zoomed in.

3. After scanning whole roll 36exp, saving finishes but no scan is saved to HDD, could it be with the age of the PC itself or not enough RAM ? it is super old XP machine, pentium 1gb ram machine ... I was able to scan and save scans when I do whole roll in parts.

This would be it for now, more info will be needed in future i guess, I have never worked with this machine...

THanks a huge lot !

Hello.

If to scan 135F then maximal resolution is 4988 x 7428 . To have it on scanning service need select "maximum" . For regular customers is enough to scan 16 Base ( 2048 x 3072 ) .  Konica DS-2000E resolution is a little higher, if compare it with Noritsu HS-1800 ( where maximal is 4492 x 6774 ) .
image file size depends on selected format and quality. When selected .jpg and Superfine then size is about 4 MB . When selected .tif then size is about 50 MB.

If to scan at Maximum then scanning is slow. 16 Base has optimal speed and quality. If you have manual film carrier and masks then can scan many other films ( 120 , mounted slides, 110, 240 ) .

RAM will not help. File rendering, conversion and writing on original computer is very slow ( sometimes 30 min ) . To have faster system need install software on modern comuters ( where W7 32 bit, or W10 32 bit ) . Can be desktop, or laptop. On new computer rendering, conversion and writing time - about 2 min ( biggest resolution and best quality ) . Sorry, but scanning speed will be just a little faster ( it is limited by scanner hardware ) .

I have DS-2000E software, upgrades ( to versions 2.02, 2.03 ) and manuals. Can help to install on new computer ( with W10 ) . Also have 11 optional modules, which can be added into your dongle. There are 11 optional modules. What you have can see on 2A1 menu.

Hi and thanks for reply.

I now understand the resolution thing and Im able to scan at full res, but problem Im having is that the scans are only 72dpi. Any way to get them to higher dpi ?

Also, yesterday I was doing test scans with info you provided, Full resolution TIF has 100mb size but only 8bit colors, again is there way to get it to 16bit ?

Regarding the slow PC - how hard is it to migrate to newer machine ? what do i need ? I have the USB stick, Can i download the Phoenix software from web and just install it ?

Thanks again

Does your scanned 135F image is 4988 x 7428? Here maximum what you can to get. If to scan the same frame on HS-1800 you will get 4492 x 6774 .

As I wrote before to get this resolution on scanning service you have select "Maximum" . All what you can select can see on service settings.

You will not find Phenix software online. Phenix not enough to run on new computer. I have everything and know how to install.

72DPI at what width and height?

DPI is relavant for printing not scanning. DPI is meaningless without specifying the print size.
The pixel dimensions are what you quote for scanning not dpi.

The scanner does not add DPI tag information to the file, so it will always show as the default 72DPI when opened in Photoshop. It is the same with Fuji and Noritsu scanners also.

If you go to image size in Photoshop, it will display the pixel dimensions together with the width and height value @72DPI.
If you untick the resample image check box, and type the magic number of 300DPI it will change the width and height values accordingly It doesn't change the file, it's just moving numbers around.

@Dave S I understand now, thank you.

Im used to high dpi and small size from large film scanners so thats why im confused.

Yes if you reference your DPI value to the 35mm frame size of 24mm x 36mm the DPI will be a much higher value.
