Hello, the last Agfa MSC 101.d in France has been out of service for a month due to a motherboard problem, according to the lab manager. Unfortunately, he hasn't been able to get a technician, so there's a good chance this Minilab won't be able to restart.

That would be a real shame; it's a fantastic machine. Does anyone have any suggestions for how to repair it, and perhaps find a replacement motherboard?

Sincerely,

Eos5000

Which motherboard you are talking about? There are few CPU boards and motherboards :
55A-CPU TYPE-A PCB assy - p.n. CL+P5A-E6912
57P-CPU PCB assy - CL+P5A-97002
Film drive motherboard pcb - p.n. CM+9850691301
Computer motherboard.

Hello thank for answer.

I imagine it's the main motherboard, the one for the IP3 processor. I'm waiting for more information from the store that handles this machine, especially to get an error code. They told me to call back in two weeks. Here's a video of the device when it was still working. Thank you for your message; I hope it can be saved.

Regards,

Eos5000 😀

Only you can know what is "main motherboard" ( computer board, printer board, processor board ) . We can't know which motherboard, or cpu board is faulty. To find out something you have to know what you need exactly.

It's amazing that this was running so recently! I don't have experience with this machine, but you should contact Limitech in Germany to see if they can offer parts or support. They have been very helpful with d-Lab parts and they know the machines well.

Hello everyone, thank you so much for your invaluable help. I have more information now; the photographer told me the following: "The minilab makes a division-by-zero error during machine loading and film initiation."

The boards in question are SK1, SK2, or SK3. SK1 is the power control board, and SK2 is the RISC board. However, I can't find which board SK3 corresponds to in the technical documentation.

Sincerely,

Eos5000 :)

SK1 is PCB power drive control pro. V 2 assy - Agfa part number CM+9.8506.9680.3 ( CM+9850696803 )
SK2 is Risc I/O PCB - Agfa part number CM+9.8506.9140.2 ( CM+9850691402 )
SK3 is RISC controller CF programmed - Agfa part number CM+9.8506.9590.0 ( CM+9850695900 )
All these boards are on film drive. Do not think that all thee boards can be faulty.

FD- division by zero ( TRAP 01 ) eror usually cause software bug ( not boards ) . On troubleshooter are these advices :
Press Clear. Take out the mirror box and push it in again
Switch the MSC 101 OFF and ON
Connect the computer with the communication software to the “Service“ connector. Send the (exact) error message to LGSAT/ML.
Ask for a new software version

So, for the MSC 101, or 101.d, the SK2 card has the reference CM+8.8506.9140.2 according to the documentation. The card with the reference CM+9.8506.9140.2 is for the MSC 100, or 100.d. Now I know exactly which cards are needed, and I'll also pass on your instructions to the photographer.

Sincerely,

Les trois cartes figurent sur la liste de composants Agfa 101.d. Comme je l'ai écrit précédemment, l'erreur TRAP 01 est généralement due à un bogue logiciel (et non à un problème de carte).

Agfa 101D.jpg

I have other documentation which indicates that for the MSC 101.d, the SK2 card has the reference: CM+8.8506.9140.2

Screenshot_20260213_212235_Drive.thumb.jpg.6366cba7dd9fd4b9c94a4525c500b773.jpg

Another problem is that I can't find cards with the exact part numbers online.

For SK3, I can't find CM+9.8506.9590.0; I found a card that looks similar, but with the part number 8.8506.9590.0.

The same goes for SK1; I can't find a CM+9.8506.9680.3 card, but I found an 8.8506.9400.8 that looks very similar. Would these two cards still be suitable, or if not, which MSC Minilab were they intended for?

I've passed on your instructions to the photographer; I'm waiting for his reply. Thank you very much for your help.

Sincerely,

Eos5000.

There are few part list versions. Your part list version is older ( 2001.05.01 ) and my version is newer ( 2002.11.01  ) . On your part list version SK1 and SK2 boards have two part numbers :
SK1 CM+9.8506.9680.2 and CM+9.8506.9680.3
SK2 CM+8.8506.9140.2 and CM+9.8506.9140.2

On my version - only newer part numbers.Boards should be exchangable. Part numbers should be on boards. You can look what you have there.

Part number can be written with dots ( CM+9.8506.9140.2 ) or without it ( CM+9850691402 ) . To find a part can use both numbers.

Thank you very much for your reply. :)

However, I would like to know if the cards I found would work, because apart from SK2, I can't find SK1 and SK3 exactly.

In the manual, SK1 = CM+9.8506.9680.3, which is impossible to find online, even with different syntaxes.

I asked a company for an SK1 card for the Agfa MSC101.d, and they offered me an L8.8506.9400.8 card, which I also found on eBay.

Can the L8.8506.9400.8 replace the CM+9.8506.9680.3?

The same goes for the CM+9.8506.9590.0; I can't find it online with that reference, regardless of the syntax.

However, if you search for Agfa MSC101.d SK3, you find a card with the 8.8506.9590.0 designation.

Can board 8.8506.9590.0 replace CM+9.8506.9590.0?

Hello,

I have a problem: I don't have the communication software to maintain this machine. Do you know where I could download it?

Is the connection between the AGFA MSC 101.d and the computer made via a standard serial port, or is a specific card required to be inserted into the computer?

I spoke with the technician who was working on this machine, and this error is unfortunately very common and has rendered many machines of this type unusable in France.

He explained that at the time, AGFA didn't provide its maintenance software, even to French AGFA technicians.

Thank you again for your help.

Sincerely, Eos5000 :)

Connect to MSC101.d need standard COM port ( DB9 ) . Used only three wires - RXD , TXD and Ground. Pinout is standard : pin 2 RXD , pin 3 TXD , pin 5 - GND . The best is to use computer, where COM port is mounted on motherboard. Interface boards and USB-COM adapters sometimes doesn't work, or have errors.
Port settings : baud rate 19200 , parity N , data bits 8 , stop bits 1 , terminal VT102 .

On MSC101.d can connect to 25 pin service connector : contact 2 - TXD, 3 - RXD , 7 - GND .
Also can connect to RISC Controller connector on ST3 : contact 1 - GND , 2 - TXD , 3 - RXD , 4 - not connected .
TXD is to transmit data and RXD is to receive data. TXD on computer need connect to RXD on printer and RXD on computer need connect to TXD on printer.

All commands are on MSC101.d repair manual ( DD+18506352D0 , 2000-07-20 ) .

You can ask support Limitech :
https://www.limitech.de/service.html
They offer remote support using Teamviewer. On Teamviewer can enable virtual network ( Teamviewer VPN option ) . Using network COM port on your computer can be transferred to remote computer using KernelPro Advanced Virtual COM Port software :

https://www.limitech.de/service.html.
https://www.kernelpro.com/advanced-virtual-com-port.html
et https://www.advancedvirtualcomport.com/.
Vous devrez fabriquer des câbles et installer le logiciel. Ils pourront ensuite se connecter à votre minilab et effectuer tous les réglages.

Thank you for your message :).

Details about the M cable will be helpful. Could you please send me the troubleshooting manual with the commands?

These days, modern PCs no longer have serial ports, so networking would require a relatively old PC, which would be complicated and risky.

I've already contacted Limitech about the parts; I'm waiting for their reply.

I spoke with a French technician who thinks the problem might stem from the fact that the cards are located near the lamp and tend to be very exposed to heat, which eventually damages them. This problem could also be due to a ventilation issue caused by dust accumulating in the fan.

Sincerely,

Eos5000.

Hello,

I have some very good news. We managed to find three replacement boards. The replacement eliminated the division by zero error. However, this still doesn't tell us what was wrong with the old boards.

After a few more repairs, this Minilab will be back in service.

Sincerely.

Eos5000
