MPhoto Posted February 18 Report Posted February 18 Having problems with our s2 scanner. It seems like the scanning led isnt on and the error 6327 -scanner light source section temperature error. Most of out workload is digital so the scanner sits sometimes for a while without being used. We have been seeing weird errors from it for a week or so, sometimes the scanner thinks there is film in the carrier. We did run a scanner sensitivity check, which is attached. We are not sure how to read it or where to go from here. Seems to us , that it is either the led light source is out or a board issue. The scanner sensitivity looks wacked to us, but again not sure what we are looking for any help is greatly appreciated. mbpl
MPhoto Posted February 18 Author Report Posted February 18 Also have noticed the base where the actual light comes out is bone cold
Dave S Posted February 18 Report Posted February 18 (edited) What is the rest of the error number? From the screen shot the LED temperature is showing as 53.2 this is too hot, it should be 45.0. The most likely cause is the cooling fans especially the ones next to the light source are either not operating or are clogged up with dust. You can test the fans in output check. The other possibility is it is not correctly reading the LED temperature. Check for bad connections on the wiring going to the LED light source. Edited February 18 by Dave S
MPhoto Posted February 19 Author Report Posted February 19 the error we are getting is 6327-0002. We did take off the led light source and found underneath was packed with dust, on the unit and back into the fan we cleaned it. We also took apart the back of the scanner and seemed that the fans were not spinning properly either. The middle one seemed to be making noise so we swapped it with a new fan. After cleaning the bottom, the main led did light up. and it seemed to coinside with the stopping of the little muffin fans in the scanner back. We were able to get a light source update thru and scanned a few rolls of film and then the same thing happened again. We had put the scanner all back together but we still think it has to do with the little fans Any ideas? Thx

Dave S Posted February 19 Report Posted February 19 The 6306 error is quite common on the S2 scanners, I wouldn't worry too much if it's only happening sometimes. Some scanners have been having this error for many years!
MPhoto Posted February 19 Author Report Posted February 19 the led cooling fan tab? I press execute but I dont really hear anything. Would we have to have the led off to insure the fan is spinning?
Dave S Posted February 19 Report Posted February 19 6 minutes ago, MPhoto said: the led cooling fan tab? I press execute but I dont really hear anything. Would we have to have the led off to insure the fan is spinning? Yes, you should hear them, they are quite noticeable when they are running. They should operate in output check no matter if the LED is on or off. Take the fans out and check they physically turn by hand. They may have failed.
MPhoto Posted February 19 Author Report Posted February 19 where does the led thermosensor get the temp from? are you talking about the fans on the back of the scanner? If so the top two seem to be turning on and off. If we unplug the power from the scanner they are on but turn off after about 20 seconds. or were you taliking about the little fan that is underneath the light source? thanx for your help and input
MPhoto Posted February 19 Author Report Posted February 19 the cooling fan tab in the led light source makes no noise when we press execute. This is for fan underneath the light source?

I'm talking about the 2 small fans that are next to the light source. There is one on the left of the light source and one on the right of the light source. If those small fans next to the light source are not working it will definitely overheat after a while.
MPhoto Posted February 19 Author Report Posted February 19 Great thx, we only cleaned the left side fan , missed the right. We will do that now, we just got in for the day.
MPhoto Posted February 19 Author Report Posted February 19 Strangely we did fire up the machine just to see if it would error out first thing, while still cold. We noticed the fans on back /top of the scanner turn on , but go off after about 10 seconds. We figure that must be related to the below dust/overheat. Do you think that is accurate?

The fans on the back are not meant to go off. There are 3 fans on the back of the S2 scanner that should run all the time there is power going to the scanner. It could possibly be related if the whole scanner is getting too hot, but less likely to be the main cause of the light source overheating. The 2 small fans next to the light source do 90% of the work of cooling the light source.
MPhoto Posted February 19 Author Report Posted February 19 ok we cleaned the compartment under the led light source really well . Still getting the same issue. The machine is on and those 3 little fans are off.(top/back) Yesterday one was making noise so I swapped it with another fan and that is when the light source temporarily turned on . I know you said they were not connected , but it is quite a coincidence. i put the new fan it , all three spun for 20 minutes, things were working well , then errors again. Seems like you said, maybe the whole unit is overheating. Or maybe we should swap in a couple other fans, since its easy, to eliminate some sort of short in the fan(s). What do you think? Seems to us those fans should be on too.
MPhoto Posted February 19 Author Report Posted February 19 do the little fans by the light source constantly spin also? When we trun on the fan in the output check, we are reaching under the unit through the gap and can not feel the little fan spinning

Have you taken the fans next to the light source out to check they spin by hand?

The power supplies are in the lower section at the back, they may also be very dusty.

Yes we did spin the little fans, do the tiny little fans and the three from th back come off thesame 24 v power supply? Those 3 fans just seem dead. Got to something to that

MPhoto Posted February 19 Author Report Posted February 19 what does the 24v power supply look like? Is it a switching board? The Noritsu s2 manual doesnt even show it.

Is there a way to test to see if the 24v power supply is working. 20 minutes ago, Dave S said: Thx we did notice the the two boards on the back top by the fans . Yesterday all three of these lights were lit, today both center lights( both labeled 24 v ) are both now off. is there a way to test the 24 volt power supply board? We used a circuit tester and did pick up power coming off the board. Sorry stumpted.
