PhilScan Posted April 26 Report Posted April 26 Hello, I have the TWAIN driver and EZ controller installed. I'm trying to start my first scan using EZ Controller. But I can't select any of the input media. I want to select Color Negative but it's greyed out (see image). From the manual it seems that I need to register a print channel on the Order Display, but there aren't any channels to select. And when I go to the Print Channel Setting to create a custom channel I can't complete that either since there aren't any printers to select from in the Output Selection window (because I don't have any printers to connect to and only want to scan en save to disk and not send scanned files to printer). So how can I scan without connecting and sending to printer?
Minilab service Posted April 26 Report Posted April 26 You have Ez controller. Twain driver is the same software, but there used not all Ez controller elements. Ez controller not enough. To use scanner need install scanner software. Scanner need select and register on Ez controller output devices menu. Also can install optional modules ( digital masking, red eye, tone curve correction and others ) . On output device menu need program scanning service, or services. On print channel need select scanning service, resolution and source ( negative ). When you program print channel you can select it and scan images.
PhilScan Posted April 26 Author Report Posted April 26 The scanner software is also installed. I can acces the Scanner menu (without EZ controller) and the scanner shows up on computer under connected devices with driver installed. So do you mean that the scanner should show up and be selected on the EZ controller output device menu?
Minilab service Posted April 26 Report Posted April 26 On Windows device manager need install HS-1800 driver. If installed the latest scanner system software ( version 7.10 then driver has digital signature. Older versions do not have digital signature. To install it need temporary disable driver signature enforcement. If you can access driver maintenance then driver already installed. Scanner should be registered on Ez controller input media menu. On output media can add scanning services.
PhilScan Posted April 28 Author Report Posted April 28 I can't find the way to add scanning services or print channels. In the Input Media I have the Scanner selected, then clicked OK and it showed the 'Registered' message. But what to do next, the negatives icons for input media selection are still greyed out and I can't find the Output Media window to create scanning service.
TECNOR Posted April 28 Report Posted April 28 For scanning only film without printer I always installed twain driver or Ez controller but never both. After you need install system program HS-1800 last version When install twain driver and system program Hs-1800 can you scanning using adoble photoshop, irfan view software and others. Also you scanning film using only Ez controller software with dongle of course also you need install system program Hs1800 and register ouput option and select Hs-1800.
Sunny35mm Posted April 29 Report Posted April 29 If you can access the maintenance menu of the scanner in EZ you have installed it correctly. I believe you haven't made a print channel. Hit F - Management Tool - Print Channel - and select the input type and make sure to select an output media. There you can select a service name you made for output media for ex JPEG, TIFF etc . You made one right? If not, Management Tool - Output Media - Make a service for JPEG, TIFF whatever settings you need. You will have to make a print channel for each resolution you'd like to scan. In the print channel setting you can hit scan settings and select a resolution for that channel. If you still need help let me know. PhilScan 1

It does seems that everything was installed correctly according to Windows device manager. EZ controller is the updated version 8 for Windows 11 (using with original dongle from Japan). So I hope it's just something very obvious that I'm missing here. So in the Output Media in the management tool I made a service (named JPEG HIGH). I assume 'Device' is where the image is saved. Then I went to the Print Channel Setting, and in the tab Output Media Setting I selected the JPEG HIGH service I made. In the Input Media Type I selected Color (Neg) and I put in Color Neg as a Channel Name. Is there something else I need to do? When I click OK I still get the message in a pop-up window saying "The print channel is not set. Confirm the print channel"
Dave S Posted April 30 Report Posted April 30 In the print channel setting Tick the Output media box, make sure the print and index boxes are not ticked, then click OK, then in the Paper setting set the virtual magazine to 152(1) and set the advance length to 102. Click OK. It should now work. PhilScan 1
Sunny35mm Posted April 30 Report Posted April 30 (edited) For me on output media I have selected Hard Disk Drive and selected the drive I want to use. For me C. In the print channel setting you have the output media tab. Select that box next to where it says output media so it is selected and that print channel will always default with output media on. If anything else , let me know edit- follow Dave's advice as well. Thanks saw that after i posted Edited April 30 by Sunny35mm
PhilScan Posted April 30 Author Report Posted April 30 Yes, it worked! Scanned (or pre-scanned) a film strip. Didn't really know on how to proceed after that but I will check the EZ manual for the process (couldn't find anything in the manual about setting up a print channel for scanning only and as Dave explained it with these specific settings). I will try to scan a whole roll tomorrow at the highest resolution. At least now I know that the scanner and software was installed correctly. Thanks everyone.
