hppj_02 Posted May 8 Report Posted May 8 Hello there, Recently just shipped over a standalone SP3000 scanner from the UK to America and I’m trying to get it initialized to start scanning film for a lab that I run. I was able to get it booted up and started, the software auto launches and everything. The unit came with the main scanner and an external PC attached, to that PC I connected an external drive that I’m trying to send scans to. The issue is that when I go to actually scan on the print menu, it fails at connecting to the imaging controller. It gives me two error message which I will link at the end of this post. Wondering if this is a software or hardware issue? Any help would be much appreciated, please excuse my lack of knowledge on this. Just trying to learn how to get this scanner up and running, I’ve got no idea if this is a silly question.
Minilab service Posted May 8 Report Posted May 8 Make sure, that between scanner computer and server computer you have network connection. Look what on both computers are IP. Try to run ping both side ( from one computer to other ) . Which software you have on server - FDIA ( C4/C5 ) , FE ( S2 ) , or MS ( MS01 server ) ? To check software connection have to know what you have there.
hppj_02 Posted May 10 Author Report Posted May 10 Hey, thanks for getting back to me so quickly! We got the machine powered up and running: scanner initializes, film carrier moves, all the mechanical stuff seems fine. But we’re stuck on E-1775 and “Connection to Imaging Controller Failed” when trying to connect through the software. The software on the server PC looks like Frontier Pro. We noticed the ethernet port on the back of the PC has nothing plugged into it. There is a FireWire cable running between the PC and the scanner. Not sure if ethernet is supposed to run directly from the server PC to the scanner’s internal computer or if there should be a switch in between, nothing was mentioned about this when we bought it. Can you walk us through how the network should be set up? We can run ipconfig on the server PC if that helps. Also is it possible to run this thing in standalone mode with the current setup? The seller never mentioned needing a separate dedicated server computer and we want to know if that’s actually required or if we can get scanning with what we have. I’ll include pictures of the back of the pc the came along with it so you can see what’s plugged in, it’s running Windows 2000. Let me know if you need anymore info in order to help out
Minilab service Posted May 10 Report Posted May 10 Do not know any "Frontier Pro" software . I know only standard Fuji software ( FDIA , FE , MS ) . In US also can be not standard software ( PIC 2.6 ) . Only you can know what you have. To see scanner software versuion on main Window need with mouse press "i" symbol. Server software version can see if to press F1, or on software maintenance menu ( depends what installed ) . Only LAN cable can cause message "Connection to Imaging Controller Failed" . Can't see it on your picture. Might be here is a cable, which is hidden under firewire cable, but can't be sure about that. I wrote look LAN IP on both computers and run ping both sides ( from one comuter to other computer IP ) . Do not know why you did not it.
hppj_02 Posted May 11 Author Report Posted May 11 Sorry, here's a picture of the software version that is running from when I clicked the i window and a clearer picture of the connection on the back of the PC. It says scanner Ver: 1.8-0E-016 I can try to ping like you said but I'm not sure how to go about it, please let me know the steps needed to do so if possible. Also I'm a bit confused on it a 2nd dedicated server PC is required to run this as a standalone film scanner only. I was under the impression we could connect an external drive to the PC and have the files route to that directly after scanning. On the current setup there's on PC tower on the bottom that runs Windows 2000, I thought maybe the scanner itself also had an internal one but that may have been wrong. I appreciate the help thus far and apologize for my lack of knowledge in operating these. Trying to learn as I go, if you need any other info from me to help let me know and I can send more pics and/or software information (may need help on finding that if so).
Minilab service Posted May 11 Report Posted May 11 On scanner computer is istalled A1 version 1.8-0E-016 . It is from FDIA package. On scanner computer also should be installed C4/C5 ( it is to export files to server ) . External HD is not enough. Server computer is necessary. Should be network connection between scanner computer and server computer. On server computer should be installed sql server and Fuji software. When used FDIA then on scanner installed C4/C5 . Do not know what you have there. You didn't tell it. Ping is standard Windows command. Even not expierenced computer user knows how to see IP address and to run ping. Ping has format ping xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx -t . Instead of x - IP which is on other computer. For example from server need run ping 192.168.1.15 -t ( if scanner computer IP is 192.168.1.15 ) . Need ping both sides ( from server to scanner IP and from scanner to server IP ) . You have see connection without errors. To access scanner computer IP need go to scanner maintenance menu, open "explorer" and look what you have on Windows network settings. Server computer IP can find on Windows network settings.
hppj_02 Posted May 29 Author Report Posted May 29 Hey, sorry for the delay and appreciate all your replies. It led us to realize the scanner was sent without the server PC you mentioned, which is why we were confused about the pinging since we had nothing to ping to. We sourced a Dell machine, got MS01 running on Windows 10, and have it connected via ethernet. The two machines can see each other on the network, so the physical connection is not the issue. The problem is within the Fuji software itself connecting from one machine to the other. Based on what you mentioned about C4/C5 needing to be on the scanner computer to communicate with the server, we think that may be what's missing. The scanner PC is running A1 version 1.8-0E-016 and we're not sure if C4/C5 is present alongside it. Can you advise on how to check whether C4/C5 is installed on the scanner computer, and if it's missing, how to source and install it?
Minilab service Posted May 30 Report Posted May 30 Of cource you can't ping to other computer when it is not connected. To receive orders from scanner need server computer and have connection between scanner software and server software. I'm almost sure, that C4/C5 is installed. When you on server use MS01 then C4/C5 is not necessary. Ms01 can do the same. C4/C5 on scanner is necessary, if on server is FDIA software ( the same C4/C5, but installed different ) . Current configuration is incorrect. Contact your software supplier. When software is from me I explain how to do step by step. The same should do your MS01 supplier. If to install correctly you have connection between scanner and server and have possibility to scan in .tiff . If can't get help from software supplier write private message. I can help to install everything, but you have to pay for my time and knowlage.
hppj_02 Posted May 30 Author Report Posted May 30 Thanks for the clarification, that’s really helpful. Just to make sure we’re on the right track before we go back to our software supplier, is the configuration issue something on the MS01 side, the scanner side, or both? And is there anything specific we should be looking for or checking in the MS01 settings to point it toward the scanner correctly?
hppj_02 Posted May 30 Author Report Posted May 30 Also a couple more questions if you don't mind. Could you explain what exactly C4/C5 is and what role it plays in the system? And separately, is initializing the FDIA database a necessary step in getting the scanner and server communicating correctly?
TECNOR Posted May 30 Report Posted May 30 You can run sp3000 with different softwares, ms01, Fe or Fdia(c4/c5) Of course you need external pc server for import/ export file.
hppj_02 Posted May 30 Author Report Posted May 30 I realize that now, I was completely unfamiliar with the machine prior to receiving and the seller didn't inform me that another PC server was necessary. They sent me the software to install it onto the Windows 10 machine we purchased but didn't provide instructions on how to properly configure it so that the two computers work correctly in tandem with each other. Trying to troubleshoot the configuration issues now.
