Hello everyone,

A very kind friend of ours recently gave each of us a Noritsu S1200 scanner from an estate. (At least, we believe they’re S1200 scanners — we haven’t actually seen them in person yet.) One unit comes with a 135 film carrier, and the other has a 120 carrier. (I picked the one with the 135 carrier.)

One of the scanners was manufactured in 2001 and has the 120 carrier, while the other was made in 2004 and includes the 135 carrier. As far as we know, these scanners were originally used in Noritsu QSS-3001 lab machines.

Our question is: how can these scanners be adapted to work with a PC? The gift came as a complete surprise, and aside from the scanners themselves, we don’t have anything else, no software or additional hardware.

We’d really appreciate any help or guidance you can offer so these amazing machines can continue to be used.

Thank you very much,
David and Balint

I haven't heard of any successful modifications to turn this scanner into a standalone device.

That would require image processing and scanner control, and the QSS30 handled all of that using its internal circuit boards.

In my opinion, these scanners are just junk.

Sorry.

I completely agree with Yustas, these cannot be used outside of the QSS-30 series minilab.

They weren't particularly good scanners either!

Sorry to disappoint you.

Do not through out 120AFC film carrier.  Can use it on newer stand alone scanners ( S900SA, S1700SA, HS1800, S1800 ) .
When we are talking about 135 films on newer scanners need 135/240AFC-II , but usually they are not on S1200 . Old film carrier model ( 135/240AFC ) can't be used there, so can use only some parts to repair newer film carrier.
