Sean M Posted June 12 Report Posted June 12 Hey guys, I always get a perforation error once the roll is exiting the machine: the LS scans the whole roll and exports the files, but usually has a perforation error no matter what. There is also a squealing sound coming from the motor at the end. I've attached a video example in my google drive link here: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1beKL7TbnoNrMr1Z4IK5xTyJCs2hbh9jf?usp=sharing
Dave S Posted June 12 Report Posted June 12 That noise is the motor stalling. The usual reason for this is bad rollers that have gone sticky. Check the rollers on the 240 side are not bad, the 240 rollers still turn even when you are scanning 135 film.
Sean M Posted June 12 Author Report Posted June 12 I Checked the 240 rollers and a couple are not overly sticky per se but the rubber does seem to be worn and "chunky". The 240 lane is also missing the two far back left rollers, not sure if that would contribute to the issue. See attached pictures. I tried wiping down the rollers with an alcohol wipe, ran a roll through and the stalling didn't occur. Also, the stalling only happens when the motor speeds up during take up or spitting film out, if that's a helpful piece of knowledge. Do you recommend replacing those rollers or could we get by with just cleaning them?

Dave S Posted June 12 Report Posted June 12 It's difficult to see things clearly from your photo. I suspect the missing rollers are stuck around the bottom of the roller shaft. When rolling slowly they turn freely, but high speed makes the rubber heat up and go tacky/ gooey due to friction. If you are not worried about the APS side just cut the rubber off any swollen rollers. Cleaning won't really help once they have dererated, the only solution is to replace them. Ideally you will need to take the carrier off the scanner to properly look at it.
Sean M Posted June 12 Author Report Posted June 12 Seems like you were right about the stuck roller. It's running well now but will likely take the carrier off soon like you suggest. Thanks for your help Dave.
