Konica R1 / DS-1000: Intermittent ERR-R23 and "Film Too Short" on Long Rolls (Thermal Issue?)

Hi everyone,
I am struggling with an intermittent issue on my Konica R1 / DS-1000 scanner and could really use some advice from the seasoned techs here.
The Setup:
  • Machine: Konica R1 Digital Minilab / DS-1000 Film Scanner
  • Carrier: 135AFC Automatic Film Carrier
  • Film: Processing long, uncut rolls of 135 film.
The Problem:
When I first turn on the machine from a cold start, it scans perfectly. However, after the machine has been running for a long time (several hours), it begins to fail frequently. It will consistently throw ERR-R23-0 (Film Load Error) or a false "Film Strip Too Short" error, even though the roll is physically very long.

ERR-R23-0 means film load error occurred. The error appears when loading film fails with a jam detected by carrier status sensor.
Remove film from carrier, reattach carrier, then start operating the scanner in the usual way. Cut the tip off the misfed film.
If film is good, but still see error then need to check drive speed change unit and AFC. Try calibrate film carrier sensors. Test sensors on input check menu. If scanner and film carrier firmware old then upgrade them. The latest  DS1000E firmware are V1.01R00 ( scanner ) , V5.08R00 ( FPGA ) , V1.00R02 ( ZOOM ) , V1.13T1 ( AFC ) .
