Hoon LEE Posted July 1 Report Posted July 1 I’m using a Noritsu QSF-V30 and would like to process 120 medium format C-41 film. I already have the 120 rack, but I’m not fully sure about the correct loading and processing procedure. Could anyone please explain the full steps for processing 120 film on the V30? Specifically, I would like to know: Do I need a dedicated 120 cassette/cartridge? How should the 120 film be loaded in the dark box or darkroom? How should the film be attached to the leader card? Are there any special settings on the V30 for 120 film? Are there any precautions to avoid film jams, uneven development, or scratches? If anyone has a manual, photos, or a video of the 120 loading process, that would be very helpful. Thank you in advance.
alexvigor Posted July 2 Report Posted July 2 (edited) 1 -Yes 2 - same as 35 mm (dark box or dark room - it doesn't matter). All the difference is that you'll have to separate paper cover from all of the film, leave only film in the cassete, without paper or plastic sleeve. 3 - same as 35 mm (use additional duct tape to make a better grip and cover all of contact with leader) 4 - no 5 - no, as long as v30 is well maintained. You can clean crossovers and heater rack, to be calm. Buy 2 rolls and do test development on both sides to make sure everything is ok. Edited July 2 by alexvigor
Hoon LEE Posted July 2 Author Report Posted July 2 Thank you so much for your detailed reply. I really appreciate you taking the time to explain everything. I've been struggling with this for quite a while, but thanks to your explanation I finally have a much clearer understanding of the process and know which direction to take. I've only been using the V30 for about a month, so I'm still very nervous about making mistakes or causing an error. Unfortunately, it's almost impossible to find any Korean documentation or tutorials about processing 120 film with the V30, so I'm having to learn everything through trial and error. That's why I'm reaching out for your help. If you happen to have some free time, would it be possible to share a few photos of the setup? For example: The 120 cassette with the film loaded How the film is attached to the leader card The leader card inserted into the V30 film loader A short video would be even more helpful if it's not too much trouble, but photos alone would already make a huge difference. Thank you again for your kindness and willingness to help. Your advice has given me much more confidence, and I truly appreciate your generosity.
yustas Posted July 2 Report Posted July 2 Don't worry so much. Please attach the 120-format film the same way you attach 135-format film to the leader card. If you have a special cassette or cartridge for 120 film, place it on the splicing table and use splicing tape to attach it to the film. Do you have the user manual? Everything is explained there.
