  1. A few weeks ago our 1550 stopped working, the paper drives stopped and that was that! I can't load or cut paper. The tank heaters, print drier and print lamp all work. Any ideas (it stopped after the morning startup when it printed 4 and 5'' calibration prints) I don't want to spend anything on it as we mainly use dry printers now. If I can get it going then it makes a good back up. If I can't get it to run I'll scrap it or let it go for spares- don't want anything for it as I'll keep the pc, scanner and screen!
  2. Just to add- I've been using e-bay hair curlers for some years now. Cheap as chips, easy to replace and they last for ages- some have been in use for nearly 5 years now. Repairs or replacements take minutes at virtually no cost.
  3. sorry- bit late in replying- found a spare fuse in my spares kit- problem fixed. Bought a few more just in case! Thanks all for your input.
  4. Thanks for that- A very helpful forum member phoned me and told me to check the print lamp suse at the back of the machine (didn't know there was one!) It had blown- quickly replaced and we were up and running! I don't have any spare thermal fuses (used the last one a couple of years ago) Anyone know the correct spec!
  5. I got the red warning that the print lamp was burnt out when I got into work today. Replaced it with a fresh lamp- same problem. I checked the fuse to the left of the lamp with an ohm-meter- ok. Checked the voltage at the lamp socket, which was 8v. (too low I'm guessing? Any ideas anyone?
  6. Did anyone watch this? Especially the last feature with Norman Wisdom's son Nick, talking about his Dad? All the 8mm cine digital transfer used in that was done by me. Please consider using me for this work, after all if it's good enough for the BBC...........
  7. Off topic! Start another thread!
  8. I'll give that a try- I was saving the files to disc as tiff files anyway. Will lowering it to 20 be enough?
  9. Thanks for that Pskaro- do you recommend I alter the sharpness settings to reduce the effect- or even turn it off altogether? My settings are the same as yours above.
  10. 1) does it have sharpening software included? I have had a customer complaining that scans to disc I did for him from120 slide film was oversharpened, not aware I had used any sharpening. 2) the connector block where the lamp cable connects has 4 connectors, which are the correct ones to use? Mine uses the connector at each end so 0xx0 if you see what I mean. I seem to be getting through a lot of bulbs, which are fine to use in the printer afterwards, but won't work in the scanner. I use osram 'smooth reflector' bulbs. I've just ordered a new socket and leads in case my original is at fault. thanks Tony
  11. Hi Nash- I get this problem a lot with my DKS1550. I usually add a little magenta which cures it most times. I think that printing on colour photo paper to produce Black and White prints is an act of misplaced faith! Years ago Kodak produced a RA4 paper for B&W (Ektamax) This worked superbly on an analogue minilab, but hopeless on a digital in my experience. Doubt if it's still made. rgds
  12. Thanks for everything, will do. I've got your number saved!
  13. Brain fade on my behalf was the problem I started the DKS before I turned on the scanner, so the scsi connection was not recognised. Alper 76 gave me a heads up as he correctly identified that the scanner was not connecting properly. I turned everything off, then turned on the scanner and then the DKS. Needless to say it worked perfectly! We're so used to hot swapping usb equipment that we forget you can't do that with scsi.
  14. All fixed now thanks with the help of Alper 76 on here. Not only did he sell me a PSU, but when I had trouble getting it to work (see above) he phoned me and talked me through how to do it. Instant success!
  15. Well, I bought a power supply off a member on here and fitted it this morning. But I've still got a problem with the scanner. Before it was totally dead- now with the replacement power supply the cooling fans are working and the indicator lights on the front are lit- but orange not green. When I first powered up the system the indicator lights flashed orange for a cpuole of minutes, then stopped flashing and are not lit with a steady orange. The 'home' screen on the DKS (it's a 1550) shows the film scanner as greyed out. Anyone know how to resolve this?
  16. I've been reviewing the recent posts and there is a trend emerging. Equipment reliability to be precise. Are we all suffering problems with the equipment we use? With the changes in our industry have we lost support from 'traditional' suppliers? I used to have a AGFA based lab- that's effectively gone (leaving me high and dry) Most of our work these days is scanning old negs (of any format) plus digital transfer of video tapes and cine films to digital media. We do lots of poster prints and canvas wraps. Most of the equipment needed for that is easily maintained or cheaply replaced. We get a lot of print work e-mailed to us via customer's phones (very popular) and our Kodak Instant print Kiosk looks after the 'walk ins' So, when we have a problem with our little used mini-lab what do we do? I have a background in mechanics so I can delve into it and fix most things with little problem. Spares (for a DKS 1550) seem to be fairly ok to get- but for how long? Are we approaching the time when we have to ditch the Minilab as we know and love? Will a manufacturer wake up and give us a machine to help us?? I don't know about the rest of you- but I am seeing more film coming in than I have in years- there seems to be a lot of interest in film- especially by the youngsters. A bit of a ramble I'm afraid- but I do feel that apart from consumable suppliers, hardware suppliers have moved on. Am I right? Over to you....
  17. Yes I'm in the UK. e-mail me on- qualityexposed@btinternet.com please!
  18. My scanner does not use a usb cable, it's a scsI Probably a bit older than yours. (2007)
  19. Several months ago my film scanner stopped working- no led's came on and no print lamp. This was after many weeks of spurious warnings of print lamp bulbs failing (which they hadn't of course. I'm sure the PSU has failed as powering it up directly from a mains outlet using a 'kettle' lead made no difference. I took the casing off the scanner and checked all the connections and blew out any dust- but to no avail. I've now found a used PSU and I am considering buying it. Is there any special procedures in chasing this unit or is it a straight swap out? Finally- I may be interested in seeing if my PSU can be refurbished- anyone know if this can be done, preferably in the UK?
  20. Just bought a very clean Kodak GS compact instant print kiosk. It works very well- very happy with it. My queries are- 1) How do you enter prices, so it will price up as the customer selects prints? 2) The bluetooth function doesn't seem to work properly- my devices find the machine but have difficulty in pairing. The password I am using on my devices is oooo. Could it be a problem with the dongle? I have others I can try. Finally- I don't have any manuals etc- can anyone point me to a link so I can download one? Thanks
  21. I think of the quality we used to produce some years back from film and now I could weep. The quality that the 'new' customer is happy with would have seen us hounded out of town and never allowed back. To be honest I no longer care- just take their money and smile. It is an absolute delight to produce good prints for real photographers. The person who thought that it would be a good idea to put a camera in a phone should be tied to a stake and burned- slowly! Just as an aside- look at how big phones are getting. Theywere getting more and more smaller and now they are getting bigger, In a couple of years you'll need a backpack to put your Samsung in Oh well I'll be retired in 2-3 years so what do I care! Mind you I'll still be doing video and cine transfers in my spare room!
  22. It's gone to kiosk heaven! I've replaced it with a Kodak GS compact instant print kiosk. To be honest that is what my customers want- the e-station was just not being used. That's 2 e-stations I've taken out of use. Anyone want any spares?
  23. Glad it all worked out for you. I've had to swap out several PSU's on my 1550. As said above it's well worth using a good quality 450w unit- they seem to last.......
  24. I have yet to buy a dye-sub printer, I'm waiting to see if I can revive the e-station. Any recommendations?
